Job summary

Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music in Piano, starting July 1, 2027. The role includes teaching applied piano, class piano, and piano ensemble, plus courses in Music Theory or Music History and general education.

The candidate should have a DMA in Piano Performance or related field (ABD considered if doctorate by July 1, 2027) and a proven teaching record, with ability to engage diverse students and lead in departmental

Qualifications

• DMA in Piano Performance or related field; ABD will be considered if the doctorate is completed by July 1, 2027.
• Evidence of successful collegiate teaching in piano and other music classes.
• Ability to interact positively with all members of the campus community.

Responsibilities

• Teach applied piano lessons, class piano, and piano ensemble; accompany vocal and instrumental students.
• Teach courses in Music Theory or Music History and general education courses.
• Lead in departmental and university service, including recruitment and retention initiatives and mentoring students.
• Maintain a research/creative activity agenda aligned with undergraduate education.
