Job summary

Sul Ross State University seeks a tenure-track field-based archaeologist with regional specialization in the Big Bend or greater US Southwest. The candidate will develop a sustained, place-based research program and support the BA and MA programs in Anthropology through teaching, mentorship, field-based training, and graduate supervision.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology by time of appointment.
• Record or strong potential of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Experience teaching anthropology/archaeology.
• Ability to lead field schools and manage excavations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an active research program in field-based archaeology with a sustained record of publication in peer-reviewed sources.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in anthropology, mentor and supervise students, and contribute to curricular and program development.
• Lead and supervise summer field schools.
• Participate in Center and departmental service.
