Job summary

The University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Creative Writing with a concentration in fiction, to begin Fall 2027. The 2–2 teaching load will be split between undergraduate and graduate classes, with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum MFA or equivalent; candidates must have published at least one book with a nationally recognized press and show excellence in teaching, mentoring, and service

Qualifications

• MFA or equivalent required.
• Published at least one book with a nationally recognized press.
• Experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Willingness to engage in service and program-building.

Responsibilities

• Teach a mix of undergraduate and graduate creative writing courses.
• Mentor and advise students in fiction writing.
• Engage in scholarly and service activities for the department.
• Collaborate with faculty to strengthen the program.
