Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Howard University College of Medicine

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology invites applications for open-rank tenure-track faculty positions. We seek outstanding scientists to establish innovative, high-impact research programs in contemporary areas of biochemistry and/or molecular biology. Successful candidates will contribute to the instruction and education of medical, dental, and graduate students. Applicants who are enthusiastic about contributing to our mission of advancing biomedical discovery and professional education are strongly encouraged to apply.

Research Expectations:

The successful candidates will develop competitive, extramurally funded, and collaborative programs in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Core Biochemistry & Molecular Biology: Enzymology, metabolic regulation, structural biochemistry, nucleic acid-based processes
  • Mechanisms & Translation: Redox biology, signal transduction, molecular mechanisms underlying cellular functions and diseases
  • Disease-relevant Biochemistry: Pathways with direct relevance to human health
  • Cross-disciplinary collaborations to address health disparities
  • Applications of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, or other multi-omics approaches to cellular processes in health and disease
Instruction & Mentorship:
  • Teaching: Contribute to instruction of medical, dental, and graduate students in areas such as signal transduction, metabolism, protein structure and function, gene regulation, and biochemical pathways.
  • Mentorship: Advise and mentor students and supervise original dissertation research.
Qualifications
  • Education: Ph.D. or equivalent in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field; postdoctoral experience is required.
  • Scholarship: Demonstrated productivity and a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Funding: Evidence of current extramural funding (R01, K99/R00, R21, or equivalent), or high potential to secure competitive grants (e.g., NIH, NSF, foundations).
  • Teaching: Experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related fields is desirable but not required.
