Otterbein University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy & Religion. We seek candidates in ethics, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Asian traditions, who will foster inclusive learning and contribute to diversity in the curriculum and student body.

The position begins August 2027, with responsibilities across teaching, scholarship, and service. Ph.D. by start date required; strong emphasis on teaching undergraduates and engaging in community activities.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant field by start of appointment.
• Interest in decolonizing approaches to religion and philosophy and social justice in the classroom.
• Complement strengths in analytic philosophy and Abrahamic traditions; teach ethics and Asian religious traditions.
• Teacher-scholar with cultural approach to Asian religious and philosophical traditions; address race, gender, sexuality and social location.

Responsibilities

• Teach 3–4 courses including Applied and Theoretical Ethics, Religions of India, Buddhism, and general education topics in Asian thought.
• Contribute to diversity of curriculum and student body; recruit and retain majors/minors.
• Engage in scholarship, professional development, student advising, mentorship, and service.
• Possibly reduced workload in first year to establish a research program; participate in teaching-centered development.
