Spelman College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Choral Conducting in the Department of Music. The successful candidate will direct the Glee Club, teach choral conducting and related courses, and contribute to teaching, recruitment, and service.

Qualifications

  • DMA or terminal degree in Choral Conducting or related field.
  • Experience in collegiate and/or professional choral settings.
  • Ability to teach and conduct broad choral repertoire, including traditional works and repertoire for women’s voices.
  • Knowledge of repertoire for women’s voices.
  • Knowledge of African American choral music.
  • Evidence of scholarly and/or creative activity.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Glee Club as a curricular ensemble and prepare it for performances and tours.
  • Teach choral conducting and related courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Contribute to recruitment, retention, and departmental activities.
  • Maintain an active program of scholarly/creative activity (presentations, publications, commissions, or recordings).
  • Participate in college and department service and committees.
