Charleston Southern University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music with expertise in Music Theory and Music Production to begin August 1, 2026. The candidate will teach and coordinate music theory in the Horton School of Music and Performing Arts, and develop courses and programs in music production.

The tenure-track position requires a master’s degree in music (18+ hours in music) with a PhD or DMA preferred. Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service is expected.

Qualifications

• Master's degree with at least 18 hours in music at time of application.
• PhD or DMA in Music with cognate in theory and/or production preferred.
• Successful teaching at the collegiate level preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach musicianship and aural skills.
• Assess incoming students’ musical skills and aptitude.
• Advise faculty and coordinate offerings and population of four levels of musicianship and aural skills sections.
• Advise faculty on student progress and admission to the School of Music.
• Develop courses and programs in music production and music technology with faculty.
• Supervise and train students in practicum and internship experiences.
