Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Creative Writing Program in the Department of English seeks an Assistant Professor (tenure track) specializing in Creative Writing (Fiction) to begin Fall 2027. The successful candidate will teach a 2/2 load and demonstrate a strong publication record, delivering undergraduate courses in short fiction and workshops.

A secondary specialization in creative nonfiction or another genre is desirable.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in Creative Writing (MFA or PhD).
• Strong publication track record, including at least one book.
• Ability to teach a range of undergraduate fiction courses and workshops.

Responsibilities

• Teach fiction courses and workshops at the undergraduate level (intro to form and technique in short fiction, beginning and advanced fiction workshops, fiction seminars).
• Mentor students, curate events, and contribute to the department’s interdisciplinary environment.
