Job summary

The University of Georgia invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track (assistant or associate) professorship in Arabic and Middle Eastern and North African Studies (MENA) with a focus on Arabic. The appointment begins August 1, 2027, with a 2/2 teaching load including Arabic language courses and courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Qualifications

• Native or near native proficiency in Arabic and English, including at least one Arabic dialect.
• Training as an ACTFL OPI tester or completion of a “familiarization” training is required.
• Candidates should have a Ph.D. in relevant fields and demonstrate scholarly excellence.

Responsibilities

• Teach Arabic language courses and courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, in Arabic and English.
• Recruit and supervise graduate students, and participate in service to the department and field.
• Engage in research activity and contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration within the department.
