Job summary

Arizona Country Club in Phoenix invites a Tennis Professional – Junior Development to lead junior coaching within our private racquet sports program. You will work with the Assistant Director of Racquet Sports to develop players from beginners through high‑level competition, while also contributing to adult tennis programming.

Qualifications

  • Significant successful experience in junior instruction and player development across multiple levels.
  • Experience in a private-club, academy, or high-level player-development environment preferred.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification, and applicable SafeSport/background clearance, required or must be obtained promptly after hire.
  • Professional certification through a recognized tennis organization preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide junior-development coaching and progression within the Junior Tennis pathway led by the Assistant Director of Racquet Sports.
  • Support the pathway from introductory tennis through developmental, competitive, tournament, and high-performance play; develop players technically, tactically, physically, and mentally.
  • Teach Adult Tennis programming including WITL clinics and practices.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Racquet Sports and contribute to adult instruction, tournaments, and programming.

As Tennis Professional – Junior Development, you’ll bring specialized junior expertise to our Junior Tennis pathway, working alongside our Assistant Director of Racquet Sports and fellow Tennis Professionals to support every junior player’s development, from their first swing through high‑performance competition.

Position Summary

The Tennis Professional – Junior Development serves as Arizona Country Club’s junior‑development specialist, bringing deep expertise in coaching and progressing junior players within the Junior Tennis pathway led by the Assistant Director of Racquet Sports.

This position focuses primarily on junior instruction and player development while also contributing to Adult Tennis and WITL as part of one cohesive Tennis program. The goal is to meet every junior where they are and help them find the right next step, whatever that looks like for them.

Member & Family Experience
  • Build strong relationships with junior players and communicate proactively and honestly with parents regarding progression, expectations, advancement, and next steps.
  • Help create programming that gives every junior an appropriate next step as ability, commitment, and goals evolve.
Programming & Instruction
  • Bring deep junior‑development expertise to the Junior Tennis program, in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Racquet Sports.
  • Support the pathway from introductory tennis through developmental, competitive, tournament, and high‑performance play.
  • Develop competitive players technically, tactically, physically, and mentally.
  • Create meaningful match‑play, tournament‑preparation, and high‑performance training opportunities.
  • Teach Adult Tennis programming as a regular responsibility, including WITL clinics and practices.
Player Development & Expertise
  • Maintain current knowledge of USTA, UTR, and the Arizona junior competitive landscape, and guide players and families toward appropriate competition.
  • Attend selected tournaments periodically to observe ACC players under competitive pressure and use those observations to inform their development.
  • Identify developing and high‑level players early and bring opportunities to the Assistant Director that allow them to continue progressing within ACC.
  • Share junior‑development expertise and best practices with other Tennis Professionals teaching junior programming.
  • Provide input on curriculum, seasonal scheduling, court use, class capacity, staffing, equipment, and weather‑related adjustments for Junior Tennis.
  • Collaborate closely with the Assistant Director of Racquet Sports and contribute to adult instruction, tournaments, and programming.
  • Attend and actively support all tennis and pickleball tournaments and special events to help ensure a consistent, high‑quality member experience.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.

  • Willingness to share expertise and mentor fellow Tennis Professionals on junior‑specific instruction.
  • Comfort coaching adults and commitment to the success of Junior Tennis, Adult Tennis, and the entire Racquet Sports department.
  • Flexibility to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, school breaks, and special events as needed.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position requires active participation in tennis instruction and daily operations.

The Tennis Professional – Junior Development must be able to:

  • Stand and move for extended periods while teaching and participating in tennis activities.
  • Demonstrate tennis technique, including running, feeding balls, swinging, stooping, bending, and balancing.
  • Lift and carry teaching and event equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with members, guests, juniors, and parents.
