Job summary

Rosemount Parks & Rec Department is seeking a Tennis Instructor to teach children aged 5–12, following the USTA QuickStart curriculum. You will plan and run a recreational tennis program, ensuring courteous and enthusiastic communication with participants and staff.

The role requires scheduling, on-time attendance, and the ability to adapt to changing community demand while promoting additional Rosemount Recreation offerings. CPR/First Aid are preferred; prior teaching experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of tennis including scoring and fundamentals.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speaking.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, conduct, and evaluate lesson plans for a quality tennis program.
• Provide constant adult supervision of the program.
• Take daily attendance for each class and report attendance gaps.
• Communicate with Recreation Supervisor on registrations and issues.
• Report injuries promptly and complete accident report.
• Promote other Rosemount Recreation programs as requested.

Job description

Tennis Instructor Tennis facility in Rosemount, Minnesota is looking for a Tennis Instructor.

Position Overview: The Tennis Instructor is responsible for communicating the concepts and skills of tennis to children ages 5 to 12 years of age. This position requires thorough knowledge, experience, and the capability of providing a recreational tennis lesson program. The Tennis Instructor must communicate with all people involved in a courteous and enthusiastic manner. The Parks & Rec Department follows the USTA QuickStart Tennis Curriculum.

Essential Duties

• Plan, conduct, and evaluate lesson plans for a quality tennis lesson program. The classes will be scheduled by the Recreation Supervisor The schedule of lessons is subject to change depending on community demand.
• Provide constant adult supervision of the program.
• Communicate with the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation office on a regular basis regarding:
  • Registrants that have not attended the classes;
  • Concerns and problem situations that occur during the lessons;
  • Recommendations to improve the operation of the program;
  • Prompt reporting to the Recreation Supervisor of any injuries that occur and completion of a thorough accident report;
  • Items that need to be repaired at the tennis court or in the park.
• Take daily attendance of each class.
• Squeegee or sweep to remove wetness or excessive sand and/or dirt from court. Any additional time required to plan and organize for the tennis program is to be communicated to and approved by the Recreation Programmer prior to the work being completed.
• Be on time and prepared for each lesson.
• Dress appropriately. A staff t-shirt will be provided and is to be worn while working with the program. Tennis shoes are required.
• Be courteous, fair, flexible, and handle issues in a positive manner.
• Provide own transportation to and from the facility. (This will include coming to the Recreation office prior to the lessons to gather tennis equipment.)
• Notify the Recreation Supervisor immediately if you are unable to instruct for that specific day.
• Provide participants with an evaluation form of their skills at the end of the class.
• Promote other Rosemount Recreation programs as requested.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Complete, thorough knowledge of the game of tennis including scoring, basic play, and all fundamentals of the game
• Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in writing
• Sound judgement and ability to make proper decisions
• Accountability; following through on commitments, focusing on tasks, taking responsibility for actions, following all policies and procedures, and being prepared and punctual for all scheduled shifts
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred
• Prior teaching experience preferred
