Collegiate School is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Head Tennis Coach for the Spring 2027 season. The role may also hire a JV Tennis Coach and reports to the Director of Athletics.

You will guide Upper School student-athletes with high-quality tennis instruction, player development, and a positive team culture. The season features weekday practices and matches at facilities in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens, with possible weekday travel.

• Prior tennis coaching and/or competitive playing experience.
• Experience working effectively with Upper School-aged students.

Salary Range: $9,290.00 To $9,290.00 Annually

Collegiate School is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Head Tennis Coach for the Spring 2027 season and may also hire a JV Tennis Coach. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, coaches support Upper School student-athletes through high-quality tennis instruction, player development, positive team culture and strong sportsmanship. The season includes weekday practices and matches at tennis facilities primarily in Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens with potential weekday travel based on the team schedule and facility availability. Coaches should generally be available Monday through Thursday around 3:30 p.m. with some Wednesday and Friday commitments beginning around 2:30 p.m. Earlier match days may also require availability by 2:30 p.m. No regular weekend commitments are anticipated. Preseason activities begin during the week of February 24. League matches begin in early April and playoffs conclude around May 12. Compensation for the Head Tennis Coach position is $9,290.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices, matches and other team activities throughout the assigned season.
• Provide tennis instruction and support age-appropriate skill development, including stroke technique, footwork, match strategy, conditioning and competitive play.
• Plan and conduct organized, purposeful practices that support individual and team development.
• Assess player development and provide clear, constructive feedback to student-athletes.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability and a positive team culture consistent with School expectations.
• Maintain appropriate supervision and support the health, safety and well-being of student-athletes during all team activities.
• Communicate and collaborate with the Director of Athletics and coaching staff regarding scheduling, facilities, equipment, transportation and student-athlete needs.
• Fulfill the practice, match and team commitments associated with the assigned coaching position.

POSITION DETAILS

• Season: Spring 2027
• Preseason activities begin during the week of February 24 and typically include indoor fitness and strength workouts.
• League matches begin in early April with the final round of playoffs concluding around May 12.
• Practices and matches are held at tennis facilities primarily in Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens.
• Coaches generally need to be available Monday through Thursday around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday practices or matches may require availability around 2:30 p.m. Earlier match days may also require availability by 2:30 p.m.
• No regular weekend commitments are anticipated.
• Collegiate School is on break March 12-28. Practices typically resume during the second week of the break.
• Depending on the team schedule and facility availability, weekday travel to another facility or destination may be required for practices, scrimmages or matches.
• Lead the overall direction of the tennis program, including practice planning, match preparation, player development and team management.
• Coordinate with the Director of Athletics and coaching staff regarding team operations, scheduling and student-athlete needs.
• Establish clear expectations for sportsmanship, teamwork, attendance and conduct.
• Potential opening for Spring 2027.
• Work collaboratively with the Head Tennis Coach to support practices, matches, player development and team operations.
• Provide instruction, supervision and feedback to JV student-athletes in alignment with the goals of the tennis program.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Prior tennis coaching and/or competitive playing experience.
• Experience working effectively with Upper School-aged students.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Availability for weekday practices and matches throughout the Spring 2027 season, including occasional earlier afternoon commitments and potential weekday travel.
• Successful completion of School-required background screening and other employment requirements.
