Job summary

TEMPORARY Web Content Engineer

Salary: $40.65 - $49.99 Hourly

Location: SCCCD District Office - Fresno, CA

Job Type: Temporary

Division: DO Information Systems

General Purpose

Under direction and as part of an assigned college's marketing andcommunications team, designs, implements and maintains websitesthat promote the college's programs and courses; manages campus webprojects; ensures websites meet accessibility and other legalrequirements; works with the Web Systems Administrator to developweb accessibility standards, policies and related faculty andstaff user training; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of thevarious types of work that may be performed. The omission ofspecific statements of duties does not exclude them from theposition if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment tothis class.

  1. Designs, implements and maintains college websites includingupdating content, publishing, internal permissions and workflowsettings, backup sites and troubleshooting; meets with faculty,students and department staff regarding their web needs; analyzesbusiness objectives and translates into functional solutions forthe college.
  2. Writes front and backend code and uses related languages,framework and scripts for website applications; tests webapplications to ensure displays meet ease-of-use and flexibilitystandards and execute properly for multiple browsers; ensuresdesigns make efficient use of network and database resources byusing server-side programming languages.
  3. Designs websites, pages and templates based on user, technicaland legal requirements, existing systems and platforms, options forintegration, established policies and budget; integrates graphics,animation, video, sound and content; ensures design's visual imagesare consistent with branding guidelines; ensures websites and webpages meet accessibility standards as required under the Americanswith Disability Act (ADA).
  4. Performs project management duties for assigned campus anddistrict-wide web system projects; works closely with customers andother project team members to set priorities, task lists, timeestimates and acceptance criteria; uses project management toolsand techniques to monitor project status and completion of projecttasks; reviews and approves project deliverables and performs otherquality assurance activities; regularly meets with customers toreview project status and resolve development/implementationproblems and bottlenecks; develops a variety of ad hoc reports tomeet project needs. Creates online help functions, includingapplication documentation; administers District content managementsystem and services in coordination with the Web SystemsAdministrator and other Web Content Engineers to include themaintenance of HTML templates, image archives, permissions and userroles, workflow and guidelines for web publication.
  5. Defines and maintains security profiles for assignedsystems.
  6. Coordinates work with IT professional staff responsible forapplications development and administration, networkadministration and database administration to ensure that websitearchitecture, functionality and design are consistent with allinformation technology strategies.
  7. Collaborates with Web Systems Administrator and other WebContent Engineers to present a consistent visual image on the webfollowing District branding standards; promotes uniform fonts,formatting, icons, image layout techniques and modularization;ensures that public-facing websites and web applications aremodernized to work with mobile devices.
  8. Maintains records and prepares periodic reports regardingwebsite updates, implementation activities and user traffic.
  9. Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of historicallyminoritized groups and participates in professional developmentactivities to increase cultural competency to enhance equity-mindedpractices within the District.
OTHER DUTIES
  1. Participates on various committees and attends meetings.
  2. May participate in selecting vendors and consultant/contractorstaff.
  3. Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS ANDABILITIES
Knowledge of:

  4. Principles and techniques of optical scanning and graphicdesign software including creation, editing and publishing.
  5. Operating system architectures, characteristics, components,uses and limitations particularly as they apply to the District'sweb technologies environment.
  6. Methods and techniques of troubleshooting website, applicationand network problems.
  7. Basic web portal application standards, protocols, hardware,software and network management practices.
  8. Customer service techniques.
  9. Principles, practices, methods and techniques of projectmanagement applicable to assigned responsibilities.
  10. Operations, production capacity and uses of web portals andapplications.
  11. Methods and techniques of troubleshooting web applications andevaluating performance.
Skillsand Abilities to:
  1. Understand and apply the analysis of functional requirements tothe development of systems proposals, specifications andrecommendations for efficient, cost-effective web technologysolutions.
  2. Conceptualize practical web-based solutions to District,department, student and other customer requirements.
  3. Troubleshoot and resolve website, application and userproblems.
  4. Perform project management responsibilities and balanceresponsibilities to ensure timely results in accordance withestablished standards.
  5. Coordinate work effectively with the Web Systems Administratorand other Web Content Engineers.
  6. Explain technical information to non-technical users.
  7. Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groupsby addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsiveservice-oriented practices.
  8. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE

An associate degree in information technology, computer science,web design or a closely related field, and at least three years ofprogressively responsible experience in the development and designof websites and web pages of database-driven web applications; oran equivalent combination of training and experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATESAND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Certain assignments may require a California driver's license andthe ability to maintain insurability under the Districts vehicleinsurance program.
