The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana seeks a Temporary Staff Attorney to assist for a 15-week period beginning December 21, 2026.

The role focuses on managing a prisoner civil rights docket and involves substantial legal research, drafting entries, and case management for court personnel. Qualified candidates will have top-quartile law school performance, law review experience, strong writing and research skills, and familiarity with Bluebook citation.

Qualifications

• Law school graduation in the top quarter (top 25% preferred).
• Law review/journal experience.
• Excellent research, writing, proofreading, and citation checking (Bluebook).
• Proficiency with computer-assisted legal research, Windows, and MS Word.

Responsibilities

• Perform legal research and draft entries for the court.
• Screen prisoner civil rights complaints and review motions.
• Manage prisoner litigation caseload and assist in hearings, conferences, and trials.
• Provide information to court personnel regarding prisoner cases.
