Job summary

Responsibilities

• Provide intake, assessment and evaluation for child abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, and youth in conflict cases.
• Investigate allegations of abuse and neglect; assess level of risk and safety.
• Develop and implement strategies to resolve identified issues; may include out-of-home placement or hospitalization.
• Make home visits and coordinate services needed by the client, such as life skills, daycare, financial assistance, healthcare and substance abuse treatment.
• Write reports in compliance with state and federal guidelines and division policy for documentation of treatment plans, contracts, and assessments.
• Perform all case management duties including data entry.
• Collaborate with other departments, community agencies, non-profits, and vendors to serve client needs.
• May conduct joint investigations with law enforcement.
• Monitor compliance and progress with treatment plans.
• Testify and make recommendations in court proceedings.
• Requires on-call duty after hours and on holidays/weekends.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in social work or human behavioral sciences

Master’s degree preferred

Current Colorado Child Welfare Social Caseworker certification preferred

Job description

The Social Caseworker series performs professional and administrative work involving a full range of assessment, case management and direct service delivery.

This role performs a variety of Child Welfare Social Caseworker duties outlined in the Code of Colorado Regulations Volume VII. These responsibilities include social casework services for program areas such as child abuse and neglect, youth-in-conflict, adoption and foster care, adult protective services, and community outreach.

The Social Caseworker II role has a moderate level of supervisory oversight and maintains a moderate caseload that is semi-complex.

This is an as-needed position and is not full-time. The position is intended to provide coverage during high-volume or short-staffed periods.

Salary Range: $30.36–$37.10 Hourly

Education

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required in social work or human behavioral sciences.
• Master’s degree in one of the human behavioral science fields preferred.
• Current Colorado Child Welfare Social Caseworker certification preferred.

Experience

• 2 years experience required in casework in a public or private social services agency.

Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check, and child abuse, adult abuse, and sex-offender registries, and a DMV check. Child abuse and adult abuse checks are continued on an annual basis.

• Within six months of employment complete Fundamentals of Colorado Child Welfare Casework Practice training.
• For continued employment, must pass pre-requisite requirements for Social Caseworker Certification and maintain annual certification per CCR 7.603.1 requirements.
• If assigned to adult protection, within six months of assignment appointment, must obtain a Colorado Adult Protection Caseworker certification and maintain annual certification per 12 CCR 2518-1.

• Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some evening, weekend and holiday hours as required.
• Work involves on-call duty after hours and on holidays/weekends and must be available to respond within one hour of notification.
• Frequently required to sit, talk or hear, walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Physical demands are described as sedentary (exert up to 30 lbs. of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body).
• Travel by automobile is required to meet with clients, attend professional meetings, or to coordinate the division's activities with other City departments and outside agencies.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
