Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Transportation District 3 in Garrison is filling one temporary Snow Plow Driver position at the Garrison Truck Station. The role supports winter operations, road maintenance, and anti-icing efforts.

Incumbents work Monday–Friday with potential split shifts during snow events; a valid Class A or B CDL with Tanker Endorsement and English proficiency are required, with background checks and no visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain roadways for snow and ice control.

  • Install/repair/maintain snow fences and replace mailboxes.

Job Summary

MnDOT District 3 will fill 1 temporary Snow Plow Driver position in the Garrison Truck Station.

Temporary employees have a schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm or during a snow and ice event will go on a split shift which could include weekends.

During a snow & ice season employees are typically split into an A or B shift, 12:00am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00pm - 12:00am (B shift); an employee may be asked to work 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the snow event.

Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour (1) of being called.

Job Duties: (A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.)

  • Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
  • Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
  • Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup.
  • Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.
  • Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes.
  • Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.
  • Performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).

OR

  • Education Substitution: Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

AND

  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement.
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist.
