Job summary

City of Raleigh North Carolina’s Raleigh Water Safety Program seeks a part‑time Safety Staff Analyst to develop and update safety training materials, deliver or coordinate trainings, and maintain records. The role supports compliance and continuous safety improvements across facilities and operations.

The position partners with supervisors, assists with audits, and helps standardize safety processes while promoting a culture of safety.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and 1 year experience in workplace safety, training coordination, instructional support, or a closely related field
• OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Develop, update, and organize safety training materials, job aids, and reference documents
• Assist in teaching or facilitating safety classes and supporting hands‑on or virtual training session
• Track safety training completion in spreadsheets, learning systems, or other tools; maintain accurate records
• Support safety program administration, including scheduling trainings, updating rosters, and preparing reports
• Assist with routine safety audits and walkthroughs; document findings and help coordinate corrective actions
• Maintain and update safety SOPs, checklists, and dashboards used for monitoring compliance
• Collaborate with supervisors and safety staff to standardize materials, align training needs, and improve workflows
• Provide guidance to employees on safety practices, expectations, and use of safety‑related tools or documentation

Raleigh Water is the City of Raleigh’s publicly owned water utility, providing clean, award-winning drinking water and reliable wastewater services to residents across Raleigh and its merger communities. The department operates multiple treatment facilities and manages thousands of miles of water and sewer infrastructure, delivering essential public health and environmental protection services.

The Safety Staff Analyst supports this mission by helping ensure Raleigh Water employees work in a safe, compliant, and well-trained environment. This role develops and updates safety materials, assists with delivering or coordinating safety trainings, maintains training records, and supports overall administration of the department’s safety program. The position partners with operational teams to implement safety practices, reinforce regulatory compliance, and promote consistent safety culture across all facilities.

This is a part-time, temporary position not to exceed 1,000 worked per year.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and 1 year experience in workplace safety, training coordination, instructional support, or a closely related field

OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (4-year) in occupational safety, environmental health, business, public administration, or related field
• 3+ years of experience supporting safety programs, developing training materials, or administering safety systems within a government, utility, or industrial environment
• Intermediate proficiency with spreadsheets, training tracking tools, or learning management systems; familiarity with OSHA principles and general workplace safety practices
• Safety-related certificates (OSHA 10/30, OSHA General Industry, CPR/First Aid Instructor, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of workplace safety concepts, training practices, and regulatory guidelines
• Skill in developing clear written materials and communicating safety procedures effectively
• Ability to maintain organized, accurate training records and documentation
• Ability to facilitate training sessions or assist instructors with hands‑on demonstrations
• Ability to work independently, follow standards, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
