(Temporary) Research Specialist
The Tolbert Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented temporary research specialist to support a new interdisciplinary research initiative focused on understanding the structure, dynamics, and therapeutic potential of RNA‑protein complexes (RNPs). The temporary research specialist will work closely with a Senior Research Scientist and other team members to execute day‑to‑day experimental workflows, contribute to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and assist with troubleshooting and optimization of experimental systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and advanced laboratory experiments related to RNA biology, protein biochemistry, and RNA‑protein interactions
- Execute established protocols with precision and consistency while maintaining detailed experimental records
- Assist in sample preparation, data collection, and preliminary data analysis
- Contribute to the development and refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain accurate and organized lab records, including electronic lab notebooks and shared data repositories
- Assist in troubleshooting experimental challenges and optimizing assay conditions
- Work with senior staff to identify sources of variability and improve experimental robustness
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Research Scientist and lab members to support multi‑project coordination
- Assist in maintaining shared laboratory resources, reagents, and equipment
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Pay
$7.25 – $32.59 hourly rate
