Job summary

Metropolitan Family Services is hiring a Temporary Program Aide for 6 months in the Early Learning Team at our HACC Family Center in Chicago, IL. You will support teachers, assist with classroom activities, and help implement language programs for dual language learners.

The position requires a High School diploma, comfort with physical tasks, and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues. Bilingual skills are preferred and health benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to effectively work with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Sensitivity to and respect for the needs of children and families, including those with disabilities.
  • Ability to carry out some physical activities such as lifting and carrying.
  • Working knowledge of computers.
  • Bilingual preferred – Spanish, Portuguese, French, Yoruba.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in a team approach to planning and implementing program activities.
  • Collaborates with Family Support Workers, Teacher, Teacher Assistant, site partners, and site supervisor for the betterment of the classroom and families.
  • Participates in child care and classroom-related activities during parent meetings/workshops.
  • Assists in ongoing CLASS implementation.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the program’s Planned Language Approach, which is designed to support dual language learners.
  • Provides food preparation, service area maintenance, and food delivery and storage with approved sanitation methods.
  • Helps carry out daily program by assisting Lead Teacher and Teacher as needed.
  • Helps guide children in achieving individual goals and assess their strengths and needs.
  • Assists in activities of the children and ensures proper guidance and ratios.
  • Attends mandated trainings and tracks professional development in Gateways.
  • Ensures accurate CACFP documents with staff.
  • Establishes positive relationships with children, parents, volunteers, and staff.
  • Provides a safe environment and supervision across classroom, transitions, transportation, and playground.
  • Ensures proper use of agency technology and adheres to code of conduct and purchasing procedures.
  • Assists with annual program self-assessment and reporting.
  • Participate in program recruitment to maintain full enrollment.

We are now hiring for a T emporary Program Aide for 6 months with the possibility of converting to a permanent role in our Early Learning Team!

SALARY:

  • The average starting hourly rate for this position will fall in the range of $16.60 and $17.00 an hour. Where candidates fall in this range will be based on skill and experience level.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in a team approach to planning and implementing program activities. Collaborates with Family Support Workers, Teacher, Teacher Assistant, site partners, and site supervisor for the betterment of the classroom and families.
  • Participates in child care and classroom-related activities during parent meetings/workshops.
  • Assists in ongoing CLASS implementation
  • Responsible for the implementation of the program’s Planned Language Approach, which is specifically designed to support dual language learners.
  • Provides food preparation, food service area maintenance, food delivery and food storage using approved sanitation methods. DuPage only
  • Helps carry out daily program by assisting Lead Teacher and Teacher as needed.
  • Helps Lead Teacher and Teacher guide children in achieving individual goals and assess children’s individual strengths and needs.
  • Assists in activities of the children and ensures appropriate child guidance and discipline and proper ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Attends all mandated trainings. Set and achieve professional development goals. Share resources with other staff members as appropriate. All professional development to be tracked in Gateways.
  • Ensure in accurate completion CACFP documents in conjunction with the other teaching staff.
  • Establishes positive relationships with children, parents, volunteers, and other staff members
  • Provides a supportive, caring and safe environment for children.
  • Use the playground as an extension of the classroom; assures that the playground is safe.
  • Provides active supervision to ensure the safety of children while in the classroom, during transitions, at time of transportation, and while on the playground. Ensures that no child shall be left alone or unsupervised.
  • Ensures the usage of agency technology equipment and time are utilized for agency business.
  • Ensures compliance with the agency’s code of conduct.
  • Ensures agency’s fiscal integrity by adhering to purchase approval requirements and procedures.
  • Assists in the development of the agency’s annual program self-assessment.
  • Ensures all content area data is accurately reflected in the agency’s Program Information Report within set time frames.
  • Participate in program recruitment efforts to maintain full enrollment
  • Meets all timelines and reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch.

The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing and viewing a computer terminal.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
