Job summary

Mountain ViewWhismanSchool District seeks a Temporary Preschool Instructional Assistant for the Latham location to support a high-quality early education program.

Under supervision of a certificated teacher, you will facilitate activities, supervise children, and help organize the classroom. You must obtain a Child Development Associate Permit within a year and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Child Development Associate Teacher's Permit or obtain one within one year of employment.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent.
  • Maintain valid Pediatric CPR & First Aid Certification.
  • Possession of a valid California's Driver's License.
  • Willing to complete appropriate training.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist preschool children inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist teacher by contributing input to curriculum and classroom setup.
  • Provide input to develop school-readiness and social-emotional development.
  • Engage children with activities meeting developmental needs throughout the day.
  • Administer minor first aid and assist with toileting as needed.
  • Collect data/observations for assessments and maintain records.
  • Communicate with teachers, staff, and Preschool Director.

This is a temporary position from August 2026 to January 2027.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday
6 hours/day; 30 hours/week
8:00am - 3:00pm
2026-27 school year

Position Description

Under the supervision of the certificated teacher, the Preschool Instructional Assistant supports the implementation of a comprehensive, high-quality early education program by helping to facilitate activities, supervise child and organize and maintain the classroom.

  • Must have a Child Development Associate Teacher's Permit or obtain one within one year of employment. Bilingual preferred but not required.
Compensation

Salary Range: $27.82/hour - $37.28/hour (New employees to the District, no higher than Step 6 $35.51)

  • Based on the 2026-27 Classified Salary Schedule

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of child development and best practices in earlychildhood education
  • Supervise children at all times, inside and outside the classroom (and on fieldtrips), interacting in a caring and respectful manner
  • Assist teacher by providing input to create and organize curriculum and establisha classroom environment that supports each child's development of schoolreadiness skills and social-emotional development
  • Facilitate and participate in engaging activities that meet the developmental andeducational needs of children throughout the day
  • Support positive classroom climate, student conflict resolution and behaviormanagement through the implementation of the established social emotional curriculum and program policies
  • Gather data and observations for assessments and complete appropriatedocumentation
  • Maintain respectful and cooperative relationships with students, parents and staffmembers
  • Administer minor first aid to ill or injured children and support toileting (which mayinclude changing soiled diapers or clothing)
  • Communicate appropriately to share relevant information with teachers, otherstaff members and Preschool Director
  • Participate in meetings, coaching and ongoing professional development andmaintain necessary permits (21 hours of professional development annuallythrough approved college coursework or workshops)
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance to fully meet work responsibilities
  • Perform basic clerical tasks and preparation of materials as directed, includingdaily attendance records, filing, and family-style food/meal preparation
  • Perform other duties related to the job or Preschool Program, as assigned
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and adhere to Preschool Program andCommunity Care Licensing policies and requirements
  • Assist in accomplishing Preschool Program and District goals
  • Assist teacher with parent-teacher conferences and home visits
ADA Profile

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; ability to sit, bend, kneel, perform grasping and handling motions and torso rotations on a continuous basis, lift, carry or move up to 25 lbs., ability to reach in all directions; adequate sight or corrected vision to read printed directions or instructions; hear and speak to communicate with co-workers, students and the public; dexterity of the hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
