Qualifications

• Must be a member in good standing with the California Association of Polygraph Examiners (CAPE).

• License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver License may be required.

Responsibilities

• Administer polygraph examinations as part of background investigations for sworn and non-sworn personnel.
• Operate related electronic recording equipment; calibrate polygraph machine; prepare confidential reports.
• Perform background and polygraph investigations including pre-test and post-test interviews.
• Explain the polygraph process to subjects to meet APA standards.
• Monitor state and federal laws; update procedures affecting polygraph and background investigations.
• Review and analyze rules related to Peace Officer Standards and Training in background investigations.
• Represent the Sheriff's Department with other agencies in polygraph matters.
• Attend seminars and give polygraph instruction presentations.
• Keep records and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and policies.
• Participate in management staff meetings to develop program policies and objectives.
