Position Title

Overhire Carpenter – Performance Operations, Scenic Department, College of Performing Arts

Position/Role Overview

The College of Performing Arts at The New School seeks a qualified Overhire Carpenter to support the Scenic Department’s creation, alteration, and sourcing of scenery for productions across the Mannes School of Music, School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and School of Drama. This overhire position reports to the Production Shops Manager and will be scheduled on an as‑needed basis without guaranteed weekly hours.

Responsibilities

• Assume general hand duties as required by the Scenic Department and cross‑department tasks assigned by the Production Shops Manager or Temporary Lead Carpenter.
• Assist with loading and unloading scenery into and out of performance venues.
• Construct scenery in production shops.
• Use ladders and genies in performance spaces to hang soft goods.
• Occasionally use sewing machines for scenic soft‑good repairs and builds.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment during builds and load‑in processes.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Mode

This position is primarily in\-person and campus‑based to support effective collaboration and engagement. Some weekends and weeknights may be scheduled as needed, aligned with production schedules.

$27.00 per hour.
