Job summary

Bentley School is seeking a dynamic Middle School English teacher to join our LBA community on the Oakland campus. The role includes teaching English and elective courses, designing daily lessons, and assessing student progress in a collaborative environment with colleagues and advisors.

Ideal candidates will hold a Bachelor's in English, have prior English teaching experience, and demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and student success in a multi-campus K-12 setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in english or related field with significant coursework in english; advanced degree preferred.
• Experience teaching english.
• Experience in teaching writing and study skills.
• Experience in an interdisciplinary environment with emphasis on group collaboration.
• Experience in teaching problem-solving skills in addition to traditional core content.
• Ability to work with students in large and small groups using multiple teaching methods.

Position Type: Position is temporary full-time, exempt, to cover for an employee on a leave of absence.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Teaching Middle School English and elective courses
• Developing daily lesson plans and assessment of student performance
• Participating in various aspects of student life at Bentley such as advising students, clubs, coaching, or working with student organizations
• Working collaboratively with administration, grade level teachers, specialists, and advisors
• Developing and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, students, and families
• Supporting and following school policies and procedures
• Creating a positive learning environment both remotely and on campus where students thrive academically
• Engaging in regular supervisory duties including drop off, recess, lunch and pick up
• Attending regular faculty, grade-level, and weekly department meetings
• Attending Open Houses, Admissions events, and other special events as needed
• Being a positive and contributing member of the Bentley community
• Communicating effectively with parents through conferences, and report writing

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in english and/or a related field that requires significant coursework in english, advanced degree preferred
• Experience teaching english
• Experience in teaching writing and study skills
• Experience in an interdisciplinary environment with an emphasis on group collaboration
• Experience in teaching problem-solving skills in addition to traditional core content
• Ability and willingness to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students

Pay Range:

Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The salary scale for this position ranges from $70,000 for teachers with no prior teaching experience to $140,000 for teachers with over 40 years of prior experience.
