Compensation: Hourly Hiring Rates: Level II- $17.37 Level III- $18.25
Hours: 30-40 hours per week, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Basic Purpose
The Housekeeping/Custodial Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the facility. This role supports daily operations by ensuring all assigned areas, including offices, shared spaces, restrooms, and break rooms—are cleaned, sanitized, and maintained according to agency standards. The position also requires strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and adherence to agency policies, confidentiality requirements, and customer service expectations.
Typical Functions
- Clean and sanitize hard surfaces, floors, shared areas, training rooms, and conference rooms.
- Perform daily trash removal, restroom cleaning, and dispenser restocking.
- Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop hard floors, and complete weekly and monthly floor maintenance.
- Dust office furniture, cubicles, fixtures, and wall-mounted items.
- Maintain stairwells, break rooms, and restrooms; use proper signage and safety practices.
- Monitor supplies, sharps containers, and facility conditions, report issues to management.
- Assist with special room setups, laundry tasks, outdoor duties, and coverage during staff absences.
Education and Experience
- Level II – Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of six months experience in building or institutional custodial work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level III – Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of eighteen months experience in building or institutional custodial work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
May be required to lift or carry 50 pounds and able to push and pull a maximum force of 25 pounds.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of various cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work; proper procedures for disposing of waste; and of chemical product safety.
- Skill is needed to operate custodial equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions; to instruct and supervise others; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

- Work Practices & Communication: Work efficiently with minimal disruption and request permission before entering occupied areas.
- Review and complete work orders and special requests promptly.
- Respond to emails, training requirements, and time entry tasks in Workday. Communicate clearly with staff, address concerns professionally, and follow up on issues.
- Time Management & Leave: Report to work on time, follow break schedules, and use work hours productively. Follow agency procedures for requesting leave, maintaining required leave balances, and preparing work for backup coverage. Submit weekly time entries and manage schedules using Microsoft and Offsite Calendars.
- Professional Conduct & Compliance: Maintain confidentiality and follow proper chain of command for sensitive information. Comply with DEQ policies, the Oklahoma Open Records Act, and all agency guidelines. Identify and resolve work-related problems, adjust priorities as needed, and support team goals. Participate in meetings, provide constructive feedback, and collaborate effectively with coworkers. Complete required training and professional development by assigned deadlines.
