Position Description

The Department of Special Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites highly qualified, motivated, and well‑organized applicants for a pool temporary of part‑time teaching appointments.

CSUDH's Department of Special Education is widely recognized not only for its relevant credential and graduate programs, as well as its faculty. Special Education classes are taught by professors who bring practical knowledge as working educators and school leaders in some of America's best‑performing schools, as well as a passionate commitment to improving access to quality education for every student in our urban schools.

The Position

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term begins mid‑January and ends in mid‑May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.

Responsibilities

Teaching university coursework specific to best pedagogical practices for students with disabilities, assessment and instructional strategies with an emphasis in reading and/or math; Supervising student teachers and interns in field experiences across various special education settings for students with mild to moderate disabilities; Evaluating progress of students in credential programs leading to the preliminary Educational Specialists Credential in Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Severe, Early Childhood Special Education or the PK‑3 Credential and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.

Required Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in cognate field or related discipline and prior college‑level teaching experience and relevant industry experience.
  • Education Specialists applicants must have P‑12 teaching experience working with students with disabilities.
  • PK‑3 Early Childhood Education Specialists Applicants must have Pk‑3 teaching experience.
  • Applications must have appropriate teaching credential, administrative credential or significant experience in related field.
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Special Education, Early Childhood, Child Development or related discipline and prior college‑level teaching experience and relevant industry experience is required for teaching upper‑division core courses (300‑or 400‑level).
Employment Requirement

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

In accordance with the California State University (CSU) Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is a state entity whose business operations reside within the State of California and prohibits hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside of California.

Salary and Benefit Information

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

A United States (US) Equivalency certification is required for earned/awarded/conferred foreign terminal degrees, which is from a foreign Academic Institution for foreign studies. The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies from an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
