Job summary

Mecklenburg County Government seeks a Temporary Event Venue Operations Assistant to support Grady Cole Center and American Legion Memorial Stadium. You will assist with athletic event logistics and coordinate with staff such as announcers, scoreboard operators, parking staff, and security.

The role also covers field and facility upkeep with occasional scoreboard/sound duties. The position requires daytime/evening/weekend hours with possible holidays.

Qualifications

• Event venue operations experience is highly preferred.
• Experience with facility or grounds maintenance is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans.
• Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large objects.
• Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unclogging toilets.
• Perform general custodial work.
• Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass.
• Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches.

POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is hiring for a Temporary Event Venue Operations Assistant! This position will be located at Grady Cole Center and American Legion Memorial Stadium and will assist with athletic event logistics and work closely with event staff including public address announcer, scoreboard operator, parking staff and security. This position will also assist with athletic field and facility maintenance, which includes but is not limited to goals, nets, press box, and general grounds maintenance. In addition, the incumbents may also take part in operating the scoreboard, clock and sound equipment at events. These positions will work a varying schedule to include daytime hours, evenings, weekends, and possible holidays.

Facility Overview

American Legion Memorial Stadium and Grady Cole Center are located near uptown Charlotte and adjacent to Central Piedmont Community College. It consists of a newly renovated 9,300-seat stadium and an attached 2000-seat civic center. The facility hosts a variety of festivals, concerts and professional & collegiate sports year‑round, including tournaments such as the Men’s & Women’s ACC Lacrosse Championships. In addition, the facility is the home of 3 professional sports teams- Charlotte Independence (Men’s Soccer), Anthem RC (Men’s Rugby), and Carolina Ascent FC (Women’s Soccer).

• Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction

• Operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers and other assigned equipment
