Job summary

The Public Policy Institute of California is seeking a Temporary Digital Content Associate to oversee social media content and digital storytelling on a temporary basis in San Francisco or Sacramento. Qualifications

  • Experience with video production and editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro).
  • Experience with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), WordPress, and preferably interactive graphics software (e.g. Tableau, Infogram, DataWrapper).
  • Working experience in a research organization or a nonpartisan media organization a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activity across PPIC’s social media channels (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram), maintaining a consistent, engaging voice.
  • Monitor news, California policy developments, and PPIC’s media mentions to identify timely opportunities for relevant, real-time content.
  • Collaborate with the digital team to plan, execute, and evaluate social media campaigns tied to major reports, events, and organizational priorities.
  • Maintain and protect PPIC’s nonpartisan brand across multiple social media channels.
  • Develop, create, and edit high-quality graphics and copy drawn from PPIC research for social media.
  • Choose images for use in published reports, ensuring visuals are high quality, relevant, and consistent with PPIC's style and brand.
  • Ideal candidates would be able to shoot and edit high quality short-form social video that promotes PPIC research.

About the role

The Public Policy Institute of California is dedicated to informing and improving public policy in the state through nonpartisan research on a range of topics. PPIC seeks a creative, energetic digital content manager to join our communications team on a temporary basis to cover an upcoming parental leave (mid-September through May 2027). This is a great opportunity for a digital storyteller who can step in and keep our social media presence running smoothly and creatively.

As a key member of PPIC’s digital team and overall communications group, the digital content manager will help implement our social media content strategy—creating content, managing our social media presence, and tracking performance—to engage our diverse audiences across platforms. This position reports to the director of digital strategy and is a hybrid position based in San Francisco or Sacramento. We encourage applications from across California and are flexible with in-office requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management
  • Manage day-to-day activity across PPIC’s social media channels (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram), maintaining a consistent, engaging voice.
  • Monitor news, California policy developments, and PPIC’s media mentions to identify timely opportunities for relevant, real-time content.
  • Collaborate with the digital team to plan, execute, and evaluate social media campaigns tied to major reports, events, and organizational priorities.

Content Creation

Performance Tracking and Optimization

Experience

The budgeted salary range for this position is $82,400 - $103,000, dependent on experience. In determining an offer level for a candidate, PPIC considers a variety of factors including but not limited to the specific role and associated responsibilities; internal equity; and a candidate’s work experience, education, training, skills and other expertise.

In addition to the salary, the role offers a generous benefit package, excellent work environment, and an exciting mission that will inspire you daily! The comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents. PPIC contributes the equivalent of 9% of the salary towards the retirement plan.
