CLASS SUMMARY: Under general direction, coach sports activities to students, including creating game plans, observing practice drills, explaining safety, rules and history of the sport, scheduling activities and tournaments, preparing facilities, and coordinating staff.

Essential Duties

1. Creates game plans; develops practice drills; observes students to correct mistakes; oversees competition.
2. Schedules buses, staff, referees, custodial, and cafeteria services for practices and games; ensures students are picked up; prepares facilities.
3. Communicates expectations, status, schedules, and rules to administration, staff, parents, and students; holds parent‑athlete meetings.
4. Explains and enforces safety rules; lectures on history and purpose of sport; demonstrates equipment use.
5. Uses health service protocols to ensure safety; explains techniques for skill development.
6. Ensures athletes meet grade and behavior requirements; demonstrates sportsmanship.
7. Announces tryouts; distributes and collects permission slips; selects and posts team members.
8. Attends meetings with other district coaches; organizes competitions and tournaments.
9. Purchases, maintains, repairs equipment and uniforms; keeps inventory and records.
10. Hosts sports recognition events and distributes awards.
11. Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education.
• One year of teaching experience.
• Valid Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certificate.
