Job summary

Masons of California seeks a dedicated driver to assist in transporting residents to and from approved destinations. You will work with the RCFE Health Service team to follow schedules and ensure safe journeys for elderly residents.

Responsibilities include assisting residents with in/out of vehicles, performing pre-trip safety checks, and handling related documentation and reimbursements. Valid license, clean DMV record, and First Aid certification are required or preferred.

Qualifications

  • Requires a clean DMV record and valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; First Aid certification preferred.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, initiative and tactful communication with residents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in transporting residents to and from prescribed destinations.
  • Follow schedules and directions from Health Service staff and manager.
  • Perform routine emergency driving assignments to clinics and hospitals.
  • Assist residents with entering/exiting vehicles, including wheelchair support.
  • Maintain safety inspections and record mileage/gas for trips as required.
  • Train new staff on vehicle inspections and transporting residents.

Pay Range $20.00 to $23.00/hourly
JOB SUMMARY

Assists in providing and delivering specific ancillary services to residents as they pertain to transportation of resident to and from certain prescribed destinations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Receives and follows schedules/instructions from the RCFE Health Service Assistant/Coordinator and RCFE Health Service Manager.

  • Performs routine emergency driving assignments to medical clinics and hospitals; performs various driving errands including recreation trips, as needed.

  • Assist residents with or without wheelchairs in and out of vehicles.

  • Follows through on completion of assignments, overcoming obstacles and increasing efforts where necessary.

  • Responsible for petti-cash for medical co-payments, Kaiser pharmacy, CVS pharmacy, etc. Reconcile monthly billing, complete coding, submit for approval by RCFE Health Service Manager and submit for payment.

  • Performs routine and emergency driving assignments to medical clinics and hospitals; performs various driving errands including recreation trips, as needed.

  • When off campus, maintains contact with Masonic Homes via cell phone as needed and calls 911 in case of a medical emergency.

  • Performs basic safety inspections prior to any assigned trip. Records mileage and gas before and after trip.

  • Attends to mechanical/body damage, by reporting it immediately to Director of Environmental Services.

  • Reports and responds to all emergencies as needed. Learns and understands Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

  • Works independently and within a team on special and non-recurring and ongoing projects.

  • Makes practical decisions and recommendations reflecting logical analysis of problems and/or issues.

  • Conveys information in a concise, accurate and understandable manner. Displays attentiveness, tact, and diplomacy in responding to others.

  • Receives and initiates calls.

  • Trains new staff on vehicle inspections, emergencies, and transferring residents in and out of vehicles. Train staff on proper usage of transporting residents in and out of handicap accessible van.

  • Attendance of mandatory department meetings and in-service education.

  • Regular attendance and punctuality.

  • Assist residents with needs as appropriate.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
  • Good driving record with at least 2 years driving experience.

  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors, and the general public, and be able to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Previous working experience with the elderly is desirable.

  • Driver must be safe and safety conscious at all times.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative in accomplishing responsibilities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities listed, typically:

High school diploma or equivalent

  • Requires a clean DMV record.

  • Maintain a class C license with option of class A or B with passenger endorsement or a Class II license.

  • First Aid certification.
