Job summary

Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. seeks an RN to provide nursing care at Marion County Jail in Salem, IL. The role involves medication administration, patient assessments, and coordination of medical services within a correctional setting.

Responsibilities include documenting care, triaging sick calls, and educating patients on policies and discharge planning. A current RN license for IL and BLS are required, with possible shift coverage at multiple facilities.

Qualifications

• Active nursing license in the state where services are provided.
• BLS certification with hands-on training.
• Excellent documentation skills.
• Knowledge of the RN scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Timely and accurately assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients.
• Contact practitioner to obtain orders.
• Administer prescribed medication, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitioner.
• Provide emergency first aid care, when appropriate.
• Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriate.
• Triage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call.
• Record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as indicated.
• Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patients' emotional or physical condition.
• Provide patient education on topics such as correctional facility's policies and discharge planning.
• Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
• Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitioner.
• Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions as required.
• Maintain knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reactions/overdose.
• Maintain knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition.
• Maintain knowledge of social and behavioral sciences in correctional settings.
• Recommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to supervisor.
• Notify supervisor of medical or security incidents.
• Present/participate in in-service education sessions.
• Perform duties within state/local standards.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices.
• Oversee and delegate duties under RN scope.
• May cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities.

Qualifications:
