Job summary

The University of New Mexico School of Law seeks qualified temporary part-time Adjunct Faculty to teach and develop specialized legal courses across several subjects, with openings contingent on enrollment and the needs of the course offerings. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester based on student demand and the curriculum.

Best consideration dates are July 22, 2026 for Fall, October 24, 2026 for Spring, and April 17, 2027 for Summer; compensation is based on credit hour course

Qualifications

• JD or equivalent legal degree is required.
• At least 5 years of law practice experience preferred.
• Prior teaching experience at a law school is preferred.
• Demonstrated curricular expertise and commitment to cultural understanding of New Mexico and UNM's mission.

The UNM School of Law anticipates hiring qualified temporary part‑time Adjunct Faculty to teach and develop specialized legal courses. Openings include the following subjects:

• Criminal Law & Criminal Practice
• Alternative Dispute Resolution
• Environmental, Natural Resources & Energy Law
• Education Law
• Business, Tax & Regulatory Law
• Immigration & Public Interest Law
• Experiential Learning, Clinics & Externships
• Legal Research, Writing & Academic Success
• Law Review & Scholarly Writing
• Moot Court, Advocacy & Competitions

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offerings matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses.

Temporary Part-Time/Adjunct Faculty at the School of Law are compensated based on credit hour course loads.

Minimum Qualifications

• JD or equivalent legal degree

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 5 years of law practice; or
• Prior Experience teaching at the School of Law or another Law School; or
• Demonstrated expertise relevant to a curricular need; and
• A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
