Job summary

UNM Gallup is seeking adjunct faculty to teach face-to-face and online lower-division courses (1000/2000 level) during Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026 semesters in English offerings such as 1110, 1110Z, 1120, 2120, and 2210.

Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they teach, including meeting times, content delivery, assignments and grading, reporting grades, and assessing student learning as outlined by the division chair. Salary is dependent on qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in English or a related field.
  • Preferred qualifications: Doctorate in English or a related field.
  • Preferred qualifications: at least three years of college-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultivating understanding of New Mexico cultures and UNM's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Teach face-to-face and/or online lower-division courses (1000/2000 level) during Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026 semesters.
  • Meet class at assigned times, including evenings or weekends; deliver content, assign and grade work; report grades; assess student learning per division chair instructions.

POSITION SUMMARY

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico's Gallup Branch, Liberal Arts & Education Division, anticipates hiring adjunct faculty to teach face‑to‑face and/or online lower division courses (1000/2000 Level) during the Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026 semesters in the following potential areas:

  • English 1110 (Composition I)
  • English 1110Z (Enhanced Composition)
  • English 1120 (Composition II)
  • English 2120 (Intermediate Composition)
  • English 2210 (Professional and Technical Communication)

UNM Gallup is a two‑year branch campus of the University of New Mexico located approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque. The University of New Mexico established branch colleges to provide the highest quality of education for students pursuing post‑secondary education at different locations throughout the state. Branch colleges respond specifically to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities by offering community educational programs, career and technical education including certificate and associate degree programs, and transfer programs that prepare students for upper division entry into colleges and universities.

UNM Gallup instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching including, but not limited to, meeting with the class during assigned times that may include face‑to‑face, evenings or weekends, content delivery, assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the division chair.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the division chair. Salary dependent on qualifications.

WAGES

Adjunct faculty are currently compensated on the basis of their credentials and credit‑hour course loads. Salary range: $1,135.26 - $1,228.24 per credit hour.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in English or a related field
