Job summary

American Geophysical Union (AGU) seeks a Temporary Manager, Communications and Marketing to support the SCM department. You will manage AGU’s social media platforms, draft posts, and monitor engagement across Bluesky, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook, while coordinating with design and marketing teams on promotional assets and newsletters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3–6 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience managing social media and utilizing social media management software including analytics.
  • Adept at developing and shaping digital content.
  • Excellent judgment for reputational management and crisis communications.
  • Excellent research, writing and communications skills with a strong preference for proficiency in AP style.
  • Professional interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, WordPress, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Manage communications and marketing efforts on AGU’s digital and social media platforms, producing light-weight content such as Canva cards and drafting posts for Bluesky, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Monitor social media throughout the business day and provide daily activity reports and alerts to supervisors.
  • Collaborate with SCM staff to promote campaigns for events, activities, and initiatives.
  • Provide basic social media analytics for channels and specific posts on a monthly basis and on request.
  • Develop consistent digital content related to AGU’s programs and strategic goals for social media channels (e.g., Instagram stories, WeChat, TikTok, YouTube).
  • Work with the marketing team to create or assign promotional assets and assist with newsletters including drafting content, proofs, scheduling, and analytics.
  • During AGU’s Annual Meeting, remotely monitor social media and high-volume posting during Pacific Time business hours.

The role will report to the Director, Media and Public Relations.WHAT WILL YOU DO• Manage communications and marketing efforts on AGU’s digital and social media platforms, producing light-weight content such as Canva cards and drafting posts of appropriate tone for AGU’s audience across Bluesky, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook.• Monitor social media throughout the business day, including both responses to AGU along with news and issues of interest to AGU. Provide a daily report of notable activity, as well as instant alerts to supervisors when appropriate.• Work in partnership with AGU communication and marketing staff to help programs on promotional campaigns for events, activities, and initiatives.• Provide basic social media analytics for channels or specific posts monthly as well as upon request.• Work with SCM team to develop consistent digital content related to AGU’s programs and strategic goals for both internal and external audiences for social media channels (e.g., Instagram stories, WeChat, TikTok, YouTube)• Work with the marketing team to create or assign to Design promotional assets.• Work with the marketing team on AGU’s newsletters as needed, including drafting content, building proofs, scheduling delivery, and capturing analytics.• During AGU’s Annual Meeting, while the team has traveled to San Francisco, assist remotely during Pacific Time business hours in closely monitoring social media, high-volume posting, occasionally monitoring the AGU news inbox, and other light tasks for media relations or marketing as needed.WHAT WILL YOU BRING• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.• 3-6 years of related work experience.• Knowledge and experience managing social media and utilizing social media management software including analytics.• Adept at developing and shaping digital content.• Excellent judgment for reputational management and crisis communications.• Excellent research, writing and communications skills with a strong preference for proficiency in AP style.• Professional interpersonal skills.• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite specially Word, Excel, Word Press, and Outlook.
