Position Summary

Responsible to provide preventative and emergency health services and wellness education to students. Evaluates, determines and recommends appropriate medical, mental health and dental services for student population. Ensures confidentiality of sensitive information and compliance with all HIPAA laws. This position is TEMP/ON CALL no guarantee of hours per week

Duties
  • Follows all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensures no manipulation of student data.
  • Assists Wellness Director to coordinate and provide medical, mental and dental services for students.

  • Complies with local and federal guidelines for the administration of all medications and maintenance of medical records.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPPA and other applicable laws and regulations regarding patient privacy and the maintenance of medical records.
  • May assist in conducting cursory medical examinations for students as allowed by state practice law).
  • Performs first aid treatment, bedside patient care and other wellness services as required.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and sanitary environment within Wellness Services. o Produces quality work/assignments in a thorough, timely and accurate manner. o Maintains appropriate personal attendance, accountability and work productivity standards. o Plans, prioritizes and organizes assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
  • Understands and applies job knowledge to effectively complete all required job responsibilities.
  • Proactively maintains the skills required to perform job duties.
  • Mentors, monitors and models the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
  • Shows respect and courtesy to students and holds them accountable for their actions and behavior.
  • Provides quality programs and services for students and ensures that quality is maintained and student needs are met. Pursues improvement and enhancement of programs and services.
  • Exchanges ideas and information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner and contributes meaningfully to group efforts by offering relevant ideas and knowledge. Provides quality and timely information to DOL/Company when requested.
  • Effectively articulates thoughts and ideas. Identifies problems, analyzes causes and evaluates appropriate solutions prior to taking or recommending actions. Follows up to ensure prompt/appropriate action is taken and that problems are in fact corrected.
  • Works in partnership with staff from all Departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
  • Accepts direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager to include assignments to temporarily perform job responsibilities of other departments and positions.
  • Other duties as assigned. i
  • Medical 1. Assessment and diagnosis of illness and injury, to include:
    • Cursory medical evaluation by a qualified health professional; must be completed within 48 hours after the student’s entry.
    • Entrance physical examination by a qualified health professional within 14 days after entry using Job Corps approved history and physical forms.
    • Required entry laboratory studies
      • Hemoglobin or hematocrit
      • Pregnancy test (all females)
      • Pap smear (all females ≥ 21 years of age)
      • Chlamydia and gonorrhea testing
      • HIV testing
      • Urine drug screen
    • Immunizations, to include boosters for incomplete immunization series, and hepatitis B vaccine for health occupations training students.
    • Tuberculin skin test (Mantoux).
    • Vision and hearing screening.
    • Daily walk-in clinic and appointment system for above and for episodic illness or injury assessment by center physician and/or nurse.
    • Inpatient unit visits for minor conditions, such as respiratory infections, or flu symptoms.

B. Treatment, as highlighted below, will be provided when necessary. Third‑party payer information will be given to providers when off‑center care is required.

  • Primary emergency care for illness and injury, including first aid and CPR, and secondary care within capabilities, e.g., injection of epinephrine, and immediate transfer to hospital emergency room for specialized diagnosis and treatment, if needed.
  • Treatment of urgent and other conditions not needing specialized care and that are within the capabilities of qualified health professionals on staff.
  • Management of chronic health conditions as directed by qualified health professionals.
  • Referral to off‑center physicians for detailed specialized assessment.
  • Access to prescription medications. If a student sustains an on-the-job injury that requires

extensive or specialized treatment, he or she will be medically separated as a Medical Separation with Reinstatement Rights (MSWR) and a referral will be sent to the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP)

General Responsibilities and Delegation: The center Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) agrees to adhere to the policies, procedures, and guidelines established by Serrato , an operator at the center and Job Corps. The parties agree that the center Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), under the Center Director’s guidance, will have primary responsibility to implement the program outlined above and may be assisted by the Job Corps National Office and/or health consultants. The center Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), with the concurrence of the Center Director, may delegate by written and dated standing orders any of his/her responsibilities set forth in this contract to appropriate qualified staff. The center Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) may delegate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) responsibilities set forth in this contract to any other full- or part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) only with the Center Director’s prior concurrence and a prior review of the secondary Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) qualifications byat the center operator, Regional Director and Regional Health Consultant for the Department of Labor, Job Corps.

Job Corps Oversight and Assistance: The center Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will be assisted by the Job Corps National Health Staff (NHS) and principal and regional health consultants. The latter will act under guidance and direction from the NHS.

Continuing Education: The center Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) shall attend periodic continuing education conferences sponsored by the regional or national Job Corps offices.

Health Records: The center Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) acknowledges that student health records belong to and are the sole property of Job Corps, and shall comply fully with federal HIPAA and state records laws. The center Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will document all services rendered in the students’ health records.
