Position Summary

This position is posted in order to create a pool of candidates to fill positions as they become available. Those selected for Home & Hospital Teaching position will be notified by email.

Job Summary

Provides instruction for students by accessing AACPS curriculum, developing and delivering instructional plans, creating and securing instructional materials, and implementing modifications to meet the needs of assigned student(s) who are unable to attend school full-time due to medical or emotional conditions or administrative placement. Hours may vary.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provides appropriate grade level course instruction based on the mandated curriculum in a variety of settings and locations throughout the Anne Arundel County. Keeps assigned student(s) on pace with the curriculum to prepare student(s) for the eventual return to school.
  • Utilizes appropriate instructional materials, resources, and technology, to enhance instruction and engage student, while supporting their diverse needs, modifications, and accommodations.
  • Offers instruction to assist student in reaching IEP goals, following the modifications/accommodations outlined in a student's IEP or 504 Plan.
  • Provides the required number of instructional hours and documents all content covered at each session.
  • Provides timely feedback concerning student progress to parents/guardians and secures parental/guardian consent or acknowledgement for each session.
  • Implements positive behavior management strategies to support a positive learning relational environment.
  • Maintains and logs communication with student's family, school-based contact points (counselors, teachers, IEP/504 teams), and Home & Hospital Teaching (HHT) Dept.
  • Attends required meetings/trainings by AACPS, HHT Dept., and school-based team, as appropriate.
  • Follows all procedures and policies in compliance with state law, the HHT Department, and Board of Education Policies.
  • Completes reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Experience
  • Two (2) years of successful classroom teaching preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge of current trends, research in the field of specialization and methodology in instructional techniques.
  • Knowledge of 504 and IEP.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to modify curriculum to meet the short‑term, itinerant instructional service mandated by state law.
  • Ability to modify curriculum for the special needs of the student.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain a professional relationship with students, parents/guardians, school-based staff, colleagues, and Board of Education staff.
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business software (e.g., video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications

Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Educator License: Initial Professional License (IPL) issued by MSDE required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non‑Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.
