Job summary

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Data-Driven EnviroLab seeks a Research Specialist/Data Analyst to support interdisciplinary research on environmental, climate, energy, and sustainability issues.

You will collect, clean, and analyze large datasets using R and/or Python, develop reproducible workflows, and create dashboards and data products for researchers, policymakers, and the public.

This role is ideal for recent BS/BA or Master’s graduates pursuing applied research experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with large datasets and reproducible workflows.
• Strong programming skills in R or Python.
• Knowledge of geospatial methods is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain research datasets by integrating diverse data sources.
• Build and maintain data pipelines using APIs, web scraping, automated collection, cleaning, classification, and validation methods.
• Conduct quantitative, statistical, and geospatial analyses (regression, panel-data, ML, spatial analysis).
• Create dashboards, visualizations, and data products for researchers, policymakers, and the public.
• Contribute to research reports and publications.
