Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks a Temporary Archaeological Monitor to join our Cultural Resources team in Western North Carolina. You will support archaeological monitoring for construction projects, observing ground-disturbing activities and documenting compliance with monitoring plans, permits, and regulatory requirements.

This 40-hour week assignment covers projects in Western NC, with priority for candidates within about two hours of Asheville.

Qualifications

• Must meet the U.S. Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards (SOI-qualified) for Archaeology.
• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field, or equivalent education and experience that meets SOI requirements.
• Experience conducting archaeological fieldwork, monitoring, survey, excavation, or CRM activities.
• Experience identifying, documenting, and evaluating archaeological resources in the field.

Responsibilities

• Implements archaeological monitoring during ground-disturbing activities to protect resources.
• Evaluates archaeological resources encountered during construction and assists with avoidance or treatment.
• Implements inadvertent discovery procedures for archaeological materials.
