Job summary

The Teller is responsible for greeting and assisting members with courteous, accurate service and performing transactions efficiently while promoting credit union products. Responsibilities include handling deposits, cashing checks, posting to member accounts, and processing loan payments with careful attention to accuracy.

Balance and reconcile cash at shift end, assist with mail and email transactions, and provide support across branches as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of related banking experience or on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of general banking functions and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Greet members and process deposits and cash transactions accurately.
  • Verify, endorse, and post share drafts and checks to accounts.
  • Handle loan payments and ensure posting accuracy in the system.
  • Maintain cash drawer balance and resolve discrepancies with supervisor.
  • Promote and cross-sell credit union services such as debit/credit cards and online banking.
  • Assist with mail and email transactions; support branches as needed.
  • Place stop payments and manage remote deposit holds when applicable.
  • Follow robbery procedures and uphold confidentiality.

Summary/ObjectiveThe Teller is responsible for greeting and welcoming members in a courteous, professional, and timely manner and performs accurate and efficient transaction for all members while promoting a full range of credit union products and services.Essential Job DutiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.In a friendly, cooperative, and courteous manner, receive share drafts/checks and cash for deposit to accounts, verify amounts, examine share drafts/checks for proper endorsement, and enter deposits into computer records. Also, receive consumer loan, home loan and other payments, and ensure accuracy when posting to the computer. Place stop payments on checks or other payment instruments as necessary.Required to consistently meet monthly goals, assist with mail/email transactions, provide support at all branches as needed, and ensure teller station is properly stocked and organized.Responsible for counting and verify strapped currency and rolled coin. Must check night depository and record proper information according to credit union procedures.Ability to cash share drafts/checks and process withdrawals; pay out money after verification of signatures and member balances and generate member receipts.Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by tellers as well as all related policies, procedures, and rules and regulations, including robbery procedures.Promote, explain, issue and cross-sell other credit union services such as electronic services, debit and credit cards, safe deposit boxes and loan promotions. Make referrals to the Gulf Investment Group when applicable.Place holds on checks, including holds initiated internally or via remote deposit. Work remote deposit transactions, including evaluating remote deposits for possible holds, place holds on remotely deposited items when required, collecting necessary signatures or documentation for holds, if applicable, sending timely notification to the appropriate parties when a hold is placed on a remote deposit.Balance cash drawer at the end of the shift and compare total amounts to computer generated balance sheet. Research and resolve any discrepancies and report any discrepancy to the supervisor as needed.Skills & AbilitiesJob requires a professional demeanor as demonstrated by the ability to be a positive example in company goals and mission, contribute to a positive and productive work environment, and maintain necessary confidentiality.Must be able to demonstrate a capacity for effective follow-through. Must be able to adjust and respond to changing requirements and new situations.Work requires knowledge of safety and security program and general teller methods and techniques including the ability to accurately count money.Intermediate mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.).Intermediate equipment skills required (telephone, fax machine, copy equipment, use of computer, system software, internet, electronic mail, spreadsheets, data processing, etc.)Work requires sound decision-making skills while following specific rules, regulations, and procedures.Act as a liaison between members and the credit union and must provide prompt, accurate and efficient transaction for all members.Required Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GED1-2 years of related experience with knowledge of general banking functions, specialized training and/or on-the-job training
