Job summary

University of Miami Health System is seeking a Telemetry Technician - Per Diem to monitor patients' cardiac rhythms on a continuous basis and provide indirect patient care as ordered by the physician.

In this role you will relay all findings to the assigned nurse, recognize and report dysrhythmias, maintain monitor alarms, document hourly rhythm data, supervise equipment, and support safe, efficient telemetry operations within a busy hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Observe cardiac rhythms continuously during each shift.
  • Recognize interference and correct with nurse guidance.
  • Identify and report dysrhythmias promptly to staff.
  • Record monitor strips every 4 hours and document PR interval, rate, rhythm.
  • Ensure telemetry alarms are active at all times and retrieve stored rhythms as needed.
  • Oversee supply inventory and report equipment malfunctions.

Job description

The Telemetry Technician - Per Diem provides indirect patient care by monitoring the Telemetry of patients with continuous cardiac monitoring as ordered by the physician.

An employee in this position also monitors cardiac functions and communicates all findings to the assigned nurse. Additionally, the incumbent effectively communicates all changes in heart rhythm.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • 1. Observes the cardiac rhythms on the monitors on a continuous basis during the shift.
  • 2. Recognizes interference and can correct the problem as observed by the nurse.
  • 3. Recognizes and immediately reports dysrhythmias to the appropriate staff.
  • 4. Records monitor strips on all patients every 4 hours.
  • 5. Documents PR interval, rate, and rhythm on the recorded strip every 4 hours.
  • 6. Assures that all telemetry monitor alarms are always on.
  • 7. Retrieves rhythms stored in memory upon request.
  • 8. Oversees supply inventory and reports malfunctioning equipment.
  • 9. Complies with the employee code of ethics and standards of behavior.
  • 10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of EKG certification program
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience preferred
