Job summary

Intermountain Health in Lafayette, Colorado is seeking a Telemetry Technician to support RN-directed telemetry monitoring on a 31-bed Progressive Care unit. You will monitor rhythms, manage equipment, document ECG data, and assist with care transitions during night shifts.

Ideal candidates will have Basic Rhythm Certification and BLS-HCP, healthcare experience, and strong teamwork and communication skills. We offer education assistance and growth paths within Intermountain Health.

Qualifications

  • Basic Rhythm Certification within 90 days of hire/transfer
  • Must pass a basic dysrhythmia test prior to orientation completion
  • BLS-HCP Certification upon hire or within 60 days with prior approval

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Cardiac Rhythms: Continuously observe patient rhythms and ensure accurate ECG readings.
  • Interpret ECG Data: Report changes promptly to the RN.
  • Telemetry Equipment Management: Prepare, maintain, and clean telemetry equipment and leads.
  • Documentation: Record rate, rhythm, and interval measurements in patient records.
  • Patient Tracking: Track patient locations during transport and ensure ECG rhythm visualization after return.
  • Crash Cart Maintenance: Perform required crash cart checks at shift start.
  • Continuity of Care: Provide ECG history for incoming monitor technicians.
  • Training and Mentorship: Help train new associates in telemetry monitoring and procedures.
  • Admission/Discharge Log: Maintain logbooks to support continuity of care.
  • Equipment Log: Maintain logs for portable telemetry equipment.

Job Description

The Telemetry Technician, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), is responsible for facilitating the telemetry monitoring of patients on a shift-to-shift basis.

Hours

Night Shift 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Preference is given to candidates with prior healthcare experience to include telemetry monitoring.

This is a 31 bed Progressive Care Telemetry unit. We care for patients with various primary cardiac issues or stroke as well as patients with any primary issue that has a secondary cardiac issue that requires closer monitoring. Essential Functions
  • Monitor Cardiac Rhythms: Continuously observe patient cardiac rhythms and ensure accurate ECG readings are maintained.
  • Interpret ECG Data: Accurately interpret and report changes in ECG rhythms to the registered nurse promptly.
  • Telemetry Equipment Management: Prepare, maintain, and clean telemetry equipment, including replacing batteries and ECG leads prior to patient admission and post-discharge.
  • Documentation: Accurately document ECG data, including rate, rhythm, and interval measurements, in patient records to communicate ECG history for multidisciplinary review.
  • Patient Tracking: Assist in tracking patient locations during off-monitor procedures, including those requiring transport to other departments, and ensure ECG rhythm visualization upon patient return.
  • Crash Cart Maintenance: Implement crash cart checks as required by the facility at the beginning of each shift to ensure availability and functionality.
  • Continuity of Care: Provide comprehensive patient ECG history to incoming monitor technicians to ensure seamless care transitions.
  • Training and Mentorship: Assist in training new associates by sharing knowledge and skills related to telemetry monitoring and procedures.
  • Admission/Discharge Log: Maintain admission and discharge logbooks to provide a backup database and support patient care continuity as required by the facility.
  • Equipment Log: Maintain equipment logbooks for portable telemetry equipment as required by the facility.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Basic Rhythm Certification, required within 90 days of hire/transfer into job as required by facility
  • Must pass a basic dysrhythmia test prior to completion of orientation
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) Certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval

Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typical... items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
