Job summary

Tenet Healthcare, at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, seeks a Telemetry Associate to support the nursing team with continuous ECG monitoring and related clerical duties.

Under supervision, you will maintain monitoring equipment, initiate tracing when rhythms change, alert staff, and help transcribe orders and manage patient information. Some college or healthcare exposure is preferred, with basic computer skills and a willingness to complete the required cardiac monitoring program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous hospital experience preferred.
• Six months of prior job experience with substantial computer usage or 3 college credits in computer classes.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred (e.g., medical terminology/transcription courses).
• Must complete a 3–4 week program in basic cardiac arrhythmia monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Assist medical and nursing staff in continuous monitoring of patient ECG rhythms.
• Maintain and monitor monitoring equipment; initiate tracing if rhythm changes and alert nursing personnel.
• Alert repair personnel of machine malfunctions and document events.
• Perform clerical and receptionist duties and transcribe orders per established policies.

Summary Description

The primary responsibilities of the Telemetry Associate include assisting the medical and nursing staff in continuous monitoring of patient ECG rhythms and maintaining monitoring equipment. Initiates tracing if change occurs in patient rhythm and immediately alerts nursing personnel. Maintains and monitors rate limits and recognizes whether irregularity is due to change in patient rhythm or machine malfunction. Alerts repair personnel of machine malfunction. Under direct supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, performs a variety of clerical and receptionist duties for assigned patient care service or nursing unit. Operates on‑line computer terminal to transcribe orders and enter/retrieve/correct patient information.

Qualifications

• 1. High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2. Previous hospital experience preferred.
• 3. Six months of prior job experience where substantial computer usage is significant part of job; OR 3 credit hours of computer classes in computer training (keyboarding, navigation, specific applications) or college program. Equivalent combination of coursework and experience.
• 4. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred (e.g., completion of medical terminology/transcription course or unit clerk/unit secretary classes, preferred).
• 5. Must be able to successfully complete three to four week program in basic cardiac arrythmia monitoring.
