Job summary

Entergy Mississippi, LLC is seeking a Telecommunications Tech responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing tasks across telecom networks and supporting infrastructure. You will configure, network, provision, and troubleshoot diverse telecom systems and components under general supervision.

The role requires experience with AVIA T MW/MW radios, Ciena equipment, and maintenance of fiber transport assets, with strong emphasis on safety and outage response.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have 4+ years in at least two domains: two-way radio, fiber, microwave, AC/DC power, IP networking, VLAN, MPLS-TE/TP, mesh tech, or Ciena transport with 10X.
  • Alternatively, a 2-year Electronics Technology degree is acceptable.
  • 4+ years in a telecommunications technician role or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Support and execute telecom network circuit provisioning, fault isolation, and resolution.
  • Install, relocate, and modify system hardware and diagnose outages.
  • Work with Mesh Network Technologies and AMI/DA.
  • Handle IP networking with ISIS, BGP, MPLS-TE routing.
  • Operate and analyze advanced test equipment (ETs, meters, TIMS, OTDRs).
  • Lead and train crew members; supervise tasks with safety focus.

Job Summary/Purpose:

Candidate must have the ability to independently plan and coordinate detailed work activities under general supervision including executing routine to advanced tasks involving the installation, configuring, networking, provisioning, and technical support of diverse telecommunications systems and network infrastructure components.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Support and execute telecom network circuit provisioning, fault isolation, and resolution. Perform installation, relocation, and modification of system hardware, and assist in diagnosing and restoring service during outages.
  • Experience in Mesh Network Technologies and AMI/DA
  • Revise and execute work orders accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Must be proficient and knowledgeable in IP networking to include ISIS, BGP, MPLS-TE routing protocols.
  • Knowledgeable with the operation and analysis of advanced test equipment, including Ethernet testers, Volt/Ohm meters, RF power meters, frequency counters, communications service monitors, optical power meters, Transmission Impairment Measurement Test Sets (TIMS), T1 test sets, DS3 test sets, field service units, and Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs).
  • Experienced professional with demonstrated proficiency in the installation, testing, maintenance, repair of Aviat MW Radio systems, Motorola 800 Radio systems, and Ciena/Nokia/Adtran Fiber Transport equipment. Adept in AC/DC power installation and upkeep.
  • Proficient in the planning, layout, and execution of assigned tasks with a focus on safety and efficiency. Experienced in supervising crew members, providing clear instructions, and training team members as needed. Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities when required. Skilled in complex telecommunications circuit provisioning, equipment installation, and troubleshooting across a wide range of transport and peripheral systems.
  • Must be available for possible after-hour call outs to address issues.
Minimal Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Special Qualifications/Education:
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 4+ years of experience in at least two of the following domains: two-way radio system support, fiber optic transmission systems, microwave radio system support, AC/DC power plant maintenance, IP networking, VLAN, MPLS-TE/TP, mesh network technologies, or Ciena transport equipment utilizing 10X. Alternatively, possession of a two-year degree in Electronics Technology or a closely related field is acceptable.
  • Should possess a minimum of 4+ years of experience in a telecommunications Technician role or an equivalent position.
  • Must have a strong foundation in electronic circuitry, electronics theory, IP networking, MPLS-TE/TP, PTP (Precision Time Protocol), SYNC-E Timing, and mesh network technologies; must demonstrate operational knowledge of AMI/DA systems, Ciena 10X Transport equipment, and all aspects of fiber as well. The ability to effectively analyze and resolve complex technical challenges and adapt to a varied workload of non-routine tasks is crucial.
  • Must be compliant with all company safety policies and all applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  • Candidate must possess the cognitive and physical capabilities required to perform the essential functions of the telecommunications technician role, including the strength and endurance necessary for physically demanding tasks encountered in the work environment as circumstances may require.
