Job summary

Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is recruiting for a Senior cyber position under CES to support US Cyber Command missions. The role is within the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level and located at DISA-Pacific (PCJ).

The candidate will lead on-site troubleshooting, coordinate incident response with RNOSC, DISA, and mission partners, and ensure interoperable joint/coalition communications. Requires DoD credentialing and security suitability.

Job description

Summary

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command. It is in the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the DISA-DISA-Pacific(PCJ).

Duties
  • Serve as the forward representative, providing local visibility of network performance, performing on-site troubleshooting, restoration, and synchronizing incident response efforts such as between the RNOSC, DISA, and mission partners.
  • Act as the forward technical expert for Mission Partner Environment (MPE) and coalition C4 systems, ensuring the interoperability and availability of joint and coalition communication capabilities.
  • Develop, validate, and operationalize primary, alternate, contingency, and emergency (PACE) communications architectures to ensure continuity of operations in degraded, denied, or contested environments.
  • Function as the primary technical liaison between DISA field offices and mission partners, translating operational requirements into actionable technical solutions and providing clear updates to leadership during incidents, exercises, and operations.
  • Assess critical infrastructure dependencies (e.g., power, HVAC, transport), identify risks to resiliency and cybersecurity posture, and support commissioning and evaluation programs to ensure systems are ready for enterprise integration.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • In accordance with the DoD 8140 policy series, the position is subject to completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and completing Residential Qualification requirements overall in 12 months.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Basic Requirements

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study – electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled.

Other Education: Communications/electronics or automatic data processing training in technical institutes or business schools above the high school level or in Armed Forces schools that included advanced instruction in addition to basic courses, may be substituted for general experience on a month-for-month basis.

Qualifying Experience

To qualify at the GG-13, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service.

For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: expertise in network operations, incident response, and enterprise services. Including IP/MPLS, satellite systems, and boundary services, with the ability to provide authoritative advice on complex issues. Perform on-site troubleshooting and fault isolation, developing and validating multi-layered communications architectures, and ensure the interoperability of joint and coalition information systems.

  • A three year trial period may be required if you have not previously completed a trial or probationary period in the excepted or competitive service.
  • Accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 3 year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination
  • Individuals tentatively selected for drug testing designated positions at the Defense Information Systems Agency will be required to submit to urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment or placement.

  • This position may be designated as Emergency Essential. Incumbent must sign a statement of understanding and an agreement to continue to perform the duties of this position in the event of a crisis until relieved by proper authority. Incumbent's dependents shall be evacuated from the crisis zone with the same priority as other DoD-sponsored evacuees. You may be required, as a condition of employment, to take the series of anthrax vaccine immunizations to include annual boosters. This may also include other immunizations that may in the future be required for this position, or for a position you may fill as an emergency-essential alternate. Failure to take the immunizations may lead to your removal from this position or separation from Federal Service.
  • This position has been designated as "Mission Essential." Incumbent will be required to report to work or relocate to a new duty location, within the United States, in times of local/national emergency.
  • Employee is subject to recall or call back during off-shift hours, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, if required by upper management.
  • PPP Application Based Preference Eligibles (Military Reserve and National Guard technicians, Military Reserve and National Guard technicians receiving disability retirement, and Retained Grade employees) will receive priority consideration at the full performance level only.
