Job summary

HCA Florida West Marion Hospital is seeking a dependable PRN Communications Operator to manage multi-line communications, dispatch maintenance requests, coordinate physician paging, and monitor critical life-safety alarms and emergency codes.

Responsibilities include rapid dispatch of alarms, routing calls, coordinating paging, and ensuring compliance with safety and privacy standards across the Ocala/West Marion facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with multi-line switchboards and MS Outlook/Excel preferred.
• Exceptional multi-tasking and active listening skills expected.
• Must comply with healthcare background checks, drug screening and HIPAA.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and dispatch hospital alarms and emergency codes.

Job Summary and Qualifications

PRN Communications Operator / Switchboard Specialist

Location: HCA Florida Ocala & West Marion Hospitals (Supporting 2 main hospitals + 8 stand-alone ERs)

Position Type: PRN (Per As Needed)

Pay Rate: 17.00 – 18.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented PRN Communications Operator to act as the central nervous system for HCA Florida Ocala & West Marion Hospitals and our 7 stand-alone emergency facilities. In this high-impact role, you will manage multi-line communications, dispatch maintenance requests, coordinate physician paging, and monitor critical life-safety alarms and emergency codes.

Core Responsibilities

• Emergency & Alarm Management: Monitor and rapidly dispatch critical hospital alarms and emergency codes.
• Call & Paging Operations: Route high-volume incoming calls and coordinate physician paging/consults.
• Facilities Support: Take, process, and dispatch plant/maintenance work orders.
• Quality & Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to HCA safety, privacy, and operational standards.

Available Shifts (PRN)

• Day Shift: 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Mid Shift: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Night Shift: 5:00 PM – 5:00 AM

* (Requires flexible, punctual attendance for on-call / per-needed shift coverage.)*

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Technical Proficienc y: Experience with multi-line switchboards and Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Office.
• Core Skills: Exceptional multi-tasking, active listening, calm demeanor under pressure, and independent work ethic.
• Compliance & Security: Must successfully complete standard healthcare background checks, drug screening, and confidentiality/HIPAA agreements given the sensitive nature of emergency codes and physician paging.
