Job summary

Stormont Vail Health in Topeka is looking for a Telecom Operator for the Health Connections team. You will handle inbound and outbound calls, monitor alarms, and issue emergency communications while maintaining professional interactions with patients and staff.

The role requires familiarity with the HICS emergency notification process, ability to multitask under interruptions, and precise documentation of actions taken. Evening shift is available as part of a full-time schedule.

Qualifications

  • 3 months of related experience.
  • Knowledgeable in the HICS Emergency Notification Process.
  • Demonstrates a good working knowledge of all processes.

Responsibilities

  • Answering and distributing all incoming calls in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide operator assistance to all callers as needed/requested.
  • Monitor the Simplex system and take appropriate actions when necessary.
  • Activate EMERGENCY TONE for Code Blue and Severe Weather when required.
  • Answer the 6444 Emergency Assistance Line following policy/procedure.
  • Make overhead announcements including Code Blue, Severe Weather, and Fire Alarm.
  • Monitor weather services and implement department procedures.
  • Initiate Emergin pages as requested per policy.
  • Document and log detailed records of processes.
  • Identify potential system problems and notify management.
  • Send alerts via Vocera Web Console and contact on-call staff as needed.
  • Issue loaner equipment per policy/procedure.

The operator will monitor alarms, take appropriate actions and make emergency overhead announcements when necessary. The operator will use multiple software systems to initiates text messaging to medical center staff. The operator reports system difficulties to the proper authority. The Operator must provide detailed documentation of process completion that may be referenced at a later date. Special emphasis is placed upon presenting and exhibiting a professional, pleasant and positive demeanor when dealing with patients, employees, and all other customers of the organization.
