Job summary

Vero Fiber is seeking a Telecom Field Technician in Urbandale, IA to install, repair, and maintain client equipment on-site, serving residential and commercial customers. The role is based in the Iowa market and involves testing, troubleshooting, and coordinating with engineering teams.

• Perform job responsibilities outdoors in different weather conditions.
• Climb and work at elevations up to 18 feet.
• Read and interpret network diagrams, blueprints, and detailed instructions.
• Operate a company vehicle safely.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Technical Support, and Service Delivery to complete installations and service calls.
• Provide excellent customer service.

TELECOM FIELD TECHNICIAN

Department: Field Services

Reports To: Outside Plant Supervisor

Location: Urbandale, IA

Position Summary

The Telecom Field Technician will be based out of our Iowa market and will be responsible for providing on‑site client installation, repairs, and maintenance of their equipment.

This position requires the individual to be prompt and reliable, have superior support skills and excellent communication. They should possess a demonstrated history of achieving high levels of client satisfaction and is motivated to provide superior service.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for network field activity on NexGen Communications network.
• Install and test new customer services in residential or business locations.
• Fiber splicing and testing
• Install, terminate, and test cat 5/6 cabling in existing and new construction multifamily buildings
• Troubleshoot and resolve network outages and issues.
• Preform job responsibilities outdoors in different weather conditions (e.g., extreme cold and/or heat, inclement weather)
• Climb and work at elevations (e.g., from ladders, lift trucks) which may exceed 18 feet.
• Read and interpret Network Diagrams, blueprints, and/or detailed instructions.
• Operate a company vehicle in accordance with safe driving practices.
• Work with Engineering, Technical Support, and Service Delivery to complete installations and service calls.
• Provide excellent customer service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with installing and handling various fiber optic cable types including single mode and multimode.
• Willingness to work in confined spaces, if necessary.
• Keen attention to detail and adherence to established standards.
• Powerful sense of accountability for safety, quality, and productivity
• Openness and availability to work flexible long hours, based on project requirements.
• Able to lift up to 50lbs and carry a ladder.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Two (2) years Fiber Optic and Cat6 Cable Installation
• Experience with Windows and the Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel)

JOB DETAILS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must have a valid Driver’s license and ability to pass an MVR screen.
• This is a nonexempt position.

• The schedule for this position is variable and may require rotating on-call, night or weekend availability as needed to fulfill the core duties of the role.
• This position requires the abilityto work outdoors in various extreme weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, rain or snow.
• This position requires the abilityto stand, walk, and climb on uneven surfaces and ladders for extended periods of time.
• This position requires the abilityto lift and carry heavy equipment or materials, up to 50 lbs.
• This position requires the abilityto wear personal protective equipment, such as hard hats, safety glasses and steel‑toed boots.
• This position requires the abilityto crouch and stand in undefined positions in narrow spaces to operate machinery or manufacturing machines.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• The anticipated hourly range for this position is $20.00 – $25.00 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity.
