Job summary

PacifiCorp in Salt Lake City seeks telecom engineers at multiple levels to design, test and integrate telecommunications and network systems that support reliable electrical operations. Responsibilities include provisioning and programming equipment such as microwave radios, fiber terminals, MAS systems, multiplexers and network switches.

You will serve as a consultant to business units, manage minor projects, document designs and assist with capacity planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to document design of systems using CAD or equivalent software.
  • Knowledge of trunking, circuit design, SONET, TDM, T1s, ISDN, Frame Relay, voice mail, PBX administration and scripting, ATM microwave and radio communication.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design major networking or communications systems.
  • Serve as a consultant to other business units for solving networking or communications needs.
  • Serve as project manager on minor projects or system upgrades.
  • Assist with systems capacity planning to manage technology changes and growth and make recommendations for approval by senior management.
  • Create documentation on all projects and keep documentation updated.
  • Write equipment specifications and purchase equipment for projects.
  • Design and test new telecommunications or network systems as required by the company.
  • Make budget recommendations for construction projects and future system requirements.
  • Analyze system problems and implement solutions.

General Purpose

Design, test and integrate telecommunications and network communications systems in support of reliable electrical system operations. Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically four years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of two years additional directly related technical experience is required.)
  • Ability to document design of systems using computer-aided drafting program or equivalent software.
  • Knowledge of trunking, circuit design, synchronous optical networking, team division multiplexing, T1’s, integrated services digital network, Frame Relay, voicemail, private branch exchange administration and scripting, asynchronous transfer mode, and microwave and radio communication.
  • Knowledge of large call center operational requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
In addition, Level 2 Telecom Engineer require
  • Three years of telecommunications or networking experience.
In addition, Level 3 Telecom Engineer require
  • Five years of telecommunications or networking experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of trunking, circuit design, SONET, TDM, T1s, ISDN, Frame Relay, voice mail, PBX administration and scripting, ATM microwave and radio communication.
In addition, Level 4 Telecom Engineer require
  • Ten years of telecommunications or networking experience.
  • Top expert level knowledge of trunking, circuit design, SONET, TDM, T1s, ISDN, Frame Relay, voice mail, PBX administration and scripting, ATM microwave and radio communication.

Hiring Range: $77,200-$161,370

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 12.00% of salary.
