Job summary

Foundation Communities in Austin, TX is seeking a Teen Youth Program Assistant for after-school and summer programs serving 6th–12th graders. This part-time role runs 1:30pm–6:30pm Monday–Friday at Trails at Vintage Creek, focusing on homework help, enrichment, fitness and inclusive, safe environment.

You must be eligible to work in the United States, have a high school diploma, enjoy working with teens, and be able to travel between FC sites.

Position Summary: The Teen Youth Program Assistant will lead daily activities and engage youth in education-centered after school and summer youth programs, including homework/academic assistance, fitness, reading and enrichment. Teen Youth Program Assistants typically work from 1:30-6:30 pm Monday-Friday.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Plan and lead meaningful activities that include but are not limited to arts and crafts, STEM/STEAM, reading, character development, physical fitness, and/or nutrition in a physical and online setting for students at your home site and other sites as needed.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills such as navigating websites, use of email suites (Gmail, Outlook, etc…) and search engines, etc…
  • Prior use of, or willingness to learn, online educational tools.
  • Prepare the learning environment, lessons and necessary supplies for program activities in an in-person and virtual setting.
  • Assist children with homework and academic enrichment activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom as well as common areas.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation
  • Ensure safety and supervision of students
  • Assist Foundation Communities Food Pantries as needed
  • Follow CDC Guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
  • Comply with all required policies, procedures, and regulations

Minimum Qualifications (experience, education, credentials, language):

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States and be able to pass a criminal background check (Fingerprint check required at some sites)
  • Must have a high school diploma
  • Must enjoy working with pre-teens/teens 6 th – 12 th grade
  • Flexibility to meet the changing work needs and demands
  • Ability to lead various fitness activities as well supervise/participate in sports
  • Ability to organize activities and make sound judgements
  • Ability to interact with a range of age groups
  • Available to work at a Learning Center Monday through Friday (1:30pm-6:30pm) on a continual basis and may be reviewed if schedule changes during the Afterschool program taking place during the school year.
  • Available during Summer Program hours (10:00am-3:00pm), Monday through Friday with some variations to assist in coverage of food pantries across sites.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to other FC sites as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Course work in Social Services, Education, Child Development & other related field
  • 6 months' experience working with children; preferably providing educational and/or social services to economically disadvantaged families.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish, Arabic or other) preferred

Physical Demands/Work Environment (include amount of lifting, twisting, bending, sitting, standing, keyboarding, driving, noise, indoor/outdoor etc.)

  • Occasional lifting, twisting, bending standing and sitting
  • Frequent walking and participation is basic exercise movements
  • Often exposed to various temperatures and conditions including but not limited to sun, wind and rain.
  • An occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials may occur.
  • May be asked to clean up bodily fluids with appropriate training and personal protective equipment provided.
  • Ability to work in all types of climate atmospheres, such as hot, raining or wet environments. Inside and outside.
  • Ability to arrive to work locations of which there may various ones throughout the day
