Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme is seeking a Teen Empowerment Advisor to provide direct services to youths aged 11-18. You will plan year-round programs, conduct intake/orientation, maintain case records, and coordinate with schools and guardians.

The role emphasizes recruiting youth, coordinating Brent's Club Program, and collaborating with district staff to market programs. A valid driver's license and Spanish language skills are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social services, counseling or related field.
  • Ability to motivate youth.
  • Ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated record of case management, planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal with at-risk youth by using non-traditional delivery methods.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, youth, and other people encountered in the course of work.
  • Valid State Driver's License.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist youth in completing community service hours set by referral source.
  • Encourage family involvement to increase youth retention.
  • Refer youth to service partners to support youth.
  • Enter data into Excel tracking sheets of youth information and surveys.
  • Recruit new youth from local middle/high schools.
  • Represent the organization with schools and district staff.
  • Coordinate meetings with school staff and Director of Brent's Club Program.
  • Implement Brent's Club Program at local schools.
  • Participate in community events to market programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in training and staff meetings.
  • Work irregular hours when necessary.
  • Drive from Teen Center to off-site locations.

Job description

The Teen Empowerment Advisor will provide direct services to youth between the ages of 11-18. The Teen Empowerment Advisor is responsible for the following:

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing year-round programs for youth
  • Prepare youth to complete the program successfully
  • Provide ongoing case management services for youth
  • Maintain the youth's case management records up to date
  • Coordinate to schedule an intake/ orientation with youth and parents/guardians
  • Conduct initial intake/orientation and survey for youth entering the program
  • Conduct follow-up calls to youth and parents/guardians who stop attending
  • Monitor community services schedule and youth attendance log
  • Assist the youth in completing their community service hours set by the referral source
  • Encourage family involvement to increase youth retention
  • Conduct follow-up calls to youth who completed the program successfully to increase youth retention
  • Refer the youth to relevant service partners to support the youth
  • Entering data into Excel tracking sheets of youth information and surveys
  • Responsible for recruiting new youth from all middle schools and high schools in Oxnard and Port Hueneme
  • Represent the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard & Port Hueneme as a liaison with schools and district staff
  • Coordinate meetings with school staff, including the principal, with the Director of the Brent's Club Program
  • Coordinate to implement Brent's Club Program at the local middle schools and high schools in Oxnard and Port Hueneme
  • Involved in community events to market the BGCOP Programs
  • Perform all other business, educational, and community outreach duties as assigned
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. Participate in training and staff meetings
  • 2. Work an irregular work schedule when necessary
  • 3. Driving from the Teen Center to off-site locations
  • 4. Perform other duties as directed
RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteers) and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel youth.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, youths' parents, and others to assist youth.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Bachelor's degree in social services, counseling or related field

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Supervise a group of youth and coordinate activities. A majority of time will be spent standing. Moderate lifting will be required from time to time.
Shift from 10:00am to 7:00pm
Monday to Friday
