Job summary

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) seeks a Technology Strategy Manager to lead cross-functional programs, maintain roadmaps, and translate emerging signals into actionable opportunities supporting mid- to long-term planning for Hyundai and Kia vehicles.

You will partner with engineering, product strategy, affiliates, universities, and HQ teams to drive portfolio balance, risk management, and executive-ready recommendations with strong stakeholder alignment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an automotive-related field is required.
  • 7+ years in automotive, mobility, technology strategy, product planning, advanced development, or closely related experience.
  • Ability to participate in video conferences across time zones (US Eastern Time).
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, training, or developing team members.
  • Experience setting team goals, managing calendars, tracking deliverables, and budgets.
  • Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional activities to identify, prioritize, coordinate, and mature advanced technologies for future Hyundai/Kia vehicles.
  • Manage the advanced development portfolio, including proposal intake, roadmaps, and executive report-outs.
  • Maintain technology roadmaps and evaluation frameworks assessing strategic fit and feasibility.
  • Lead technology sensing and scouting in North America and build external partnerships.
  • Translate discoveries into actionable planning implications and opportunities.
  • Clarify risks, dependencies, and next steps for stakeholders and executives.
  • Serve as liaison across engineering, legal, finance, purchasing, and admin teams for budgets and IP issues.
  • Mentor and train team members; set goals and development opportunities.
  • Control budgets for planning, collaborations, events, and department initiatives.
  • Create repeatable processes, templates, trackers, and knowledge-sharing channels.
  • Support patent, innovation processes, and technology showcases for stakeholders.

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and execution-oriented manager to join the Technology Strategy Team of the Product Planning Department, leading activities that connect advanced technology development with future Hyundai and Kia vehicle planning efforts

The Team:

The Technology Strategy Team acts as a bridge between affiliates, Hyundai Motor Group headquarters, and engineering, product planning, and program management teams to identify, prioritize, coordinate, and mature advanced technologies for future Hyundai/Kia vehicles. The team’s work is broader than technology scouting alone and includes advanced development portfolio management, technology roadmapping, future technology planning, technology sensing and scouting, research and innovation support, patent and innovation process support, external collaboration, executive reporting, strategic analysis, and technology showcases and events.

The Position:

TheTechnology Strategy Manager would lead company technology strategy activities by coordinating cross-functional advanced development programs, maintaining technology roadmaps, translating emerging technology signals into actionable opportunities, and preparing executive-level recommendations that support mid- to long-term planning. This role requires close partnership with internal engineering organizations, product strategy and regulation/certification teams, regional affiliates, university and external partners, and HQ counterparts.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead team activities that connect engineering, product planning, and program management teams, affiliates, headquarters, and enabling functions to identify, prioritize, coordinate, and mature advanced technologies for future Hyundai/Kia vehicles
  • Manage the advanced development portfolio, including project proposal intake, prioritization, kickoffs, roadmap alignment, status tracking, review gates, decision checkpoints, and executive-level report-outs
  • Own and maintain technology roadmaps, candidate technology pools, technology landscape materials, and evaluation frameworks that assess strategic fit, customer value, feasibility, timing, readiness level, risk, investment needs, and portfolio balance
  • Lead technology sensing and scouting in North America by monitoring emerging technologies, tracking trends, gathering conference and exhibition intelligence, and maintaining relationships with universities, startups, suppliers, research organizations, and ecosystem partners
  • Translate technology discoveries and engineering input into actionable planning implications, recommendations, and opportunities aligned with product, market, regulatory, affiliate, and headquarters needs
  • Drive stakeholder and executive alignment by summarizing technical and business tradeoffs, identifying risks and dependencies, clarifying stakeholder positions, escalating unresolved issues, and recommending next steps
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering, legal, finance, purchasing, and administrative teams and other support functions to resolve budget, contract, intellectual property, resource, and execution requirements for advanced technology projects and external collaborations
  • Manage, mentor, and train team members by setting clear goals, priorities, performance expectations, calendars, resource plans, and development opportunities
  • Control and track budgets for team-related activities, including project planning, external collaborations, events, travel, and department-supported initiatives
  • Create and improve repeatable processes, templates, trackers, reporting standards, knowledge-management systems, and information-sharing channels that improve visibility, accountability, continuity, and reuse of insights
  • Support research, innovation, patent, and idea-management processes that encourage technology growth and improve visibility of company innovation activities
  • Plan and support technology showcases, exhibits, workshops, and information-sharing events that communicate the capabilities of the company and future technology opportunities to internal and global stakeholders
  • Travel up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally
What You Will Bring to the Role:
  • Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in an automotive-related field
    • 7+ years of automotive, mobility, technology strategy, product planning, advanced development, or closely related experience
    • Ability to attend video conferences with colleagues from other time zones as needed (typically 1-2x per month from 7:00 to 8:00 PM (US Eastern Time))
    • Ability to lead cross-functional work independently in a fast-paced environment, including influencing contributors who are not under direct authority
    • Experience managing, mentoring, training, or developing team members in a technical, strategic, and/or cross-functional work environment
    • Experience setting team goals, managing project calendars, tracking deliverables, and controlling budgets or project spending
    • Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Adept in Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
    • Excellent time management, self-management, project management, and organization skills
    • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in an automotive-related field
    • 10+ years of automotive, mobility, technology strategy, product planning, advanced development, or closely related experience
    • Experience working at, or engaging with, startups and established automotive suppliers
    • Experience assessing the technical feasibility and market viability of advanced technologies
    • Experience developing long-term technology development roadmaps
    • Broad understanding of the automotive technical, regulatory, and market landscape
    • Experience supporting the development of automotive technology from initial concept to high-volume production
      • Demonstrated success managing complex portfolios, roadmaps, and/or strategic programs across multiple stakeholder groups
    • Ability to distill complex information into understandable visuals and actionable strategic recommendations
    • Proven ability to deliver presentations and written material at a level appropriate for senior executive audiences
    • Experience with patents and IP-related issues
    • Familiarity with structured innovation techniques to develop products and/or services
    • Experience with the following programs: Tableau, PowerBI, MS Copilot, Notion, Confluence, and/or Smartsheets
    • Ability to read and speak Korean
